**SW Development Engineer - XEN and Realtime (Mid-Senior level)** | AMD | Sunnyvale, CA Lead development of advanced virtualization technologies and real-time systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver cutting-edge products for server, client, and embedded systems. Key responsibilities include system-level design, performance optimization, and code integration. Proficient in C/C++ programming, proficient in working with XEN, virtualization technologies, and real-time operating systems. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, with 5-10 years of relevant experience. Familiarity with Linux, Git, and hardware description languages (VHDL, Verilog) is preferred.

SW Development Engineer - XEN and Realtime

THE ROLE:
The engineer will drive the success of power IP (Intellectual Property) and features in AMD products through strong technical leadership, cross-functional coordination, and resolution of dependencies while meeting schedule commitments. This is a high-visibility role spanning pre-silicon architecture through post-silicon implementation and product delivery.

THE PERSON:
A highly motivated engineer with strong curiosity and a continuous learning mindset. Ability to innovate and improve processes while contributing to a collaborative, results-oriented environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPERIENCE:

  • 8+ years of experience in Embedded Linux system software / kernel and driver development
  • Strong programming skills in C and Linux kernel debugging
  • Hands-on experience with Xen virtualization:
    • Dom0 kernel, drivers, and I/O virtualization
    • DomU integration and guest driver considerations
  • Strong understanding of Real-Time Linux fundamentals:
    • Determinism vs throughput trade-offs
    • Latency and jitter analysis and mitigation
  • Experience working with PREEMPT_RT kernels and real-time tuning:
    • IRQ threading, priority inheritance, RT mutex behavior
    • CPU isolation, affinity, cpusets/cgroups, NOHZ/full tickless
  • Driver-level expertise in one or more areas:
    • Ethernet (MAC/PHY, DMA, interrupts, NAPI)
    • PCIe / IOMMU / MSI-X
    • Storage (NVMe/SATA) or high-speed I/O
    • Industrial I/O (SPI/I2C/UART/GPIO) under timing constraints
  • Experience with performance and latency analysis tools:
    • ftrace, perf, trace-cmd, cyclictest
  • Experience with Yocto BSPs:
    • Kernel configuration, recipe integration, reproducible builds

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
