The Research Analyst will play a crucial role in our Event Driven Team, contributing to the evaluation and analysis of M&A transactions and investment opportunities. Working closely with Portfolio Managers, the successful candidate will delve into the legal, tax, and regulatory aspects of deals, assessing their impact on deal outcomes and profit potential. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build a career in event-driven investing within a well-established alternatives platform.Responsibilities
- Support Portfolio Managers in evaluating M&A transactions, including deal terms and consideration structure.
- Conduct fundamental research on transaction parties, reviewing merger agreements, proxy statements, and company filings.
- Analyze legal, tax, and regulatory factors affecting deal completion and timing.
- Build and maintain financial models and spread/return scenarios for existing and prospective positions.
- Monitor active positions, tracking regulatory developments, company fundamentals, and market news.
- Assist in sizing and structuring positions across equities, options, and other instruments.
- Prepare written summaries and updates on deal status for internal discussions and risk reviews.
- Maintain and enhance the team's tools and databases for tracking merger arbitrage deals.
- Collaborate with analysts, traders, and risk management professionals in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- 4-10 years of relevant experience in investment banking, equity research, transaction advisory, or hedge funds.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field with a strong academic record.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, valuation, and quantitative skills, with advanced Excel skills.
- Familiarity with M&A deal structures, corporate transactions, and capital markets fundamentals.
- Working knowledge of Bloomberg and market data tools, or a quick ability to learn them.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for concise deal information synthesis.
- Expertise or willingness to learn and utilize AI tools for research, modeling, and productivity.
- Analytical rigor to dissect merger agreements and identify risk factors and profit drivers.
- Attention to detail in modeling, monitoring, and reporting.
- Intellectual curiosity to proactively research legal, regulatory, and industry dynamics.
Salary: $175,000 - $225,000 + discretionary bonus
