Join us in building a better bank by driving impactful initiatives within Danske IT. You will be part of a key engineering area focused on advancing observability and reliability capabilities across the organisation.
Our goal is to accelerate technology innovation by building modern, user-centric observability services that provide deep insights into system behaviour, reliability, and performance. While we collaborate closely with infrastructure teams, our focus is on enabling visibility, automation, and intelligent operations on top of complex systems.
Automation is central to how we work - not only improving efficiency, but enabling engineers across the organisation to build, operate, and scale systems with confidence.
You will join a global team, working with colleagues across multiple locations, characterised by strong ownership, collaboration, and a focus on delivering real impact. As an Expert Backend Engineer, you will be trusted and empowered to design and build AI-enabled observability solutions, improving transparency, reliability, and decision-making across platforms.
In close collaboration with engineers and product owners across Service Reliability & Observability (SRO) and Infrastructure Reliability Engineering (IRE), you will help shape engineering practices, empower teams through automation and self-service, and contribute to bringing Agentic AI into observability and operational workflows.

You will:

  • Co‑own, maintain, and evolve infrastructure automation and observability platforms together with esteemed colleagues, acting as an integral part of the team
  • Enable self‑service capabilities for Infrastructure Reliability Engineering and the wider organisation through robust backend platforms
  • Define department‑wide software engineering architectures, technical approaches, standards, and practices as part of engineering guilds
  • Design and implement backend services following OOP principles, promoting code re‑usability, readability, and standardisation
  • Ensure code is clean, well‑documented, and maintainable, minimising the need for reverse‑engineering over time
  • Champion an automation‑first engineering mindset across platforms and teams
  • Drive the technical AI agenda for observability, including architectural design and hands‑on development of AI agents that leverage telemetry data
  • Act as a role model and go‑to technical authority for backend engineering and architecture for Senior Software Engineers and other team members

About you:

  • 7+ years of experience in backend development, including making design decisions

  • In-depth experience with AWS and Kubernetes, including designing and operating scalable production-grade backend platforms

  • Strong understanding of REST API standards and best practices, with experience building API-first backend services

  • Experience with Agile ways of working, including Git flow, code review culture, multiple development environments, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing

  • Familiarity with SOLID principles, Clean Code, and modern software architectural patterns such as microservices and event-driven architectures

  • Solid communication skills, upper-intermediate English proficiency, and a strong sense of ownership with the ability to challenge existing norms constructively

  • Self-driven mindset with a strong focus on continuous learning and a willingness to share knowledge and mentor others within the team

  • Demonstrable experience in automating infrastructure and improving programmability at enterprise scale

  • Hands-on experience designing and building AI agents or AI-enabled backend components, with practical exposure to generative AI or machine-learning-driven systems; knowledge of Go and Python is considered beneficial

"Together, we continue to build an inclusive culture that encourages, supports, and celebrates the diverse voices of our employees."

We offer:

Monthly salary range from 4960 EUR to 7440 EUR gross (based on your competencies relevant for the job).
