Location: ON-SITE, Sudbury, Ontario
Salary range: $95,000 - $140,000, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus, comprehensive benefits, and pension

XPS is a metallurgical consulting business focused on delivering practical, data-driven solutions that create real value. We combine deep technical expertise with strong commercial thinking to support clients in orebody understanding, process design, and operational performance across a range of commodities. Our approach is grounded in simplicity, accountability, and delivering solutions that work in real operating environments.

About the Role
We are looking for an Intermediate Pyrometallurgist to join our Extractive Metallurgy team. This role is focused on delivering practical, high-value solutions to clients across the non-ferrous metals industry.

As part of a consulting-led business, you will work closely with clients to solve complex metallurgical challenges, supporting both day-to-day operations and longer-term growth initiatives. Projects range from plant troubleshooting and optimisation to process design, modelling, and strategic studies.

What You’ll Do

  • Work directly with clients to solve metallurgical challenges and improve plant performance
  • Provide practical, data-driven advice on smelting, refining, and related processes
  • Support operations through troubleshooting, debottlenecking, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to process design, flowsheet development, and technical studies for new and existing operations
  • Develop proposals and scopes of work aligned to client needs
  • Manage projects to meet safety, quality, schedule, and cost expectations
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to technical knowledge sharing

Your Experience

  • Degree in Metallurgical, Process, Materials Engineering, or related discipline
  • 6 to 10 years of experience in pyrometallurgy or extractive metallurgy
  • Experience supporting plant operations, process development, or technical consulting
  • Exposure to base metals, precious metals, or related commodities
  • Familiarity with process modelling/tools (e.g. FactSage, Metsim, COMSOL) is an asset
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate data into practical outcomes
  • Clear and concise technical communication (reports, presentations, client interaction)
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive, client-focused mindset

What Sets You Apart

  • You take ownership and follow through
  • You focus on delivering value to clients
  • You communicate clearly and work collaboratively
  • You look for practical, workable solutions, not just theoretical answers
  • You are curious, adaptable, and motivated to improve

Why Join XPS

  • Work in a consulting environment with diverse, real-world challenges
  • Be part of a collaborative team of technical experts
  • Contribute to projects across a range of commodities and operations
  • Grow your technical and consulting skillset
  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and development opportunities
