United Wambo Joint Venture (UWJV) is an open-cut coal mine located 16 kilometres west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. UWJV is a 50:50 joint venture between United Collieries (Glencore and MEU) and Wambo Coal (Peabody).

The Opportunity

Operations commenced in 2020 and the mine is forecast to produce up to 10 million tonnes per annum of thermal and semi-soft metallurgical coal through to 2039. United Wambo was named NSW Mining Operation of the Year in 2022.

Bring your heavy mobile plant experience to a long-life Hunter Valley operation where trade quality, equipment reliability and safe execution matter. You will work across a diverse mining fleet and be part of a maintenance team focused on doing the job properly, improving performance and developing its people.

The Role

Reporting to a Maintenance Supervisor, you will maintain and repair heavy mobile equipment and ancillary machinery across United Wambo. The work includes planned maintenance, breakdown response, fault diagnosis, component repairs, inspections and defect elimination.

You will work closely with Maintenance Operations, Planning and Reliability to return equipment safely and efficiently, improve availability and prevent repeat failures. Experienced tradespeople will also support apprentices and developing team members through practical coaching, clear feedback and safe task guidance.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Complete planned and unplanned maintenance to the required safety, quality and technical standards.

  • Diagnose equipment faults, complete effective repairs and provide clear handovers and maintenance records.

  • Identify repeat defects and contribute practical ideas that improve reliability, maintainability and downtime performance.

  • Work constructively with supervisors, planners, reliability personnel, operators and service providers.

  • Support a respectful learning culture by sharing trade knowledge and helping apprentices build safe, verified workplace capability.

  • Apply risk controls, follow site procedures and stop work when conditions or capability change.

About you

  • Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology (AUR31220) or an equivalent recognised mechanical trade qualification.

  • Open cut maintenance experience across haul trucks, excavators or ancillary equipment.

  • Exposure to Caterpillar, Komatsu or Liebherr heavy mining equipment (desirable).

  • A strong commitment to risk management, critical controls and safe work practices.

  • Sound diagnostic and fault finding ability with pride in repair quality and workmanship.

  • Clear communication, reliable teamwork and the ability to work effectively with independently.

  • A practical improvement mindset and willingness to challenge ineffective ways of working.
