**Senior Customer & Application Development Engineer - Coatings** Drive Proxxima™ polyolefin thermoset system business growth. Leverage Nobel Prize-winning catalyst technology for high-performance polymers in wind turbines, EVs, and more. Key responsibilities include customer engagement, application development, and material formulation. Proven experience (8+ yrs) in coatings or relevant industries, with strong technical skills in polymer science, customer relations, and project management. Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field required. Familiarity with cyclic C5 monomers, additive manufacturing, and data analytics preferred.

ExxonMobil in China

ExxonMobil has a long history in China dating back to 1892 when its predecessor Standard Oil began marketing kerosene to light the Mei Foo lamps at Chinese homes. Today, ExxonMobil’s business portfolio in China spans the full spectrum of the industry, from upstream to downstream, chemicals and technology center.
ExxonMobil has a long-term commitment to China through investments, products, technologies and partnerships, helping meet China’s growing demand for energy and petrochemical products.

What role you will play in our team

Help grow our ProxximaTM polyolefin thermoset system business.  These resin formulations are based on cyclic C5 monomers and other proprietary monomers and additives. Our catalyst formulations have strong foundations in Nobel Prize-winning technology developed by Professor Robert Grubbs and his research team. This powerful combination produces polymers that have the capability to outperform today’s thermoset composite solutions across a broad set of everyday applications such as wind turbine blades, electric vehicle parts, construction, and anticorrosion coatings.

Your role is to demonstrate the application and performance advantages of ProxximaTM polyolefin thermoset coatings technology and help prospective customers adopt it for use in their existing coating products.

Your office is at the Shanghai Technology Center, located in Shanghai, China.  However, in addition to working closely with the local commercial and technical colleagues at STC, a significant part of your time will be spent collaborating with the technical colleagues located at the Baytown Technology and Engineering Complex (BTEC), in Baytown, TX  as well as occasionally traveling to support customer trials in AP region.

What you will do

  • Provide technical support to prospective AP customers using Proxxima64 polyolfefin thermoset resins and catalysts to develop anti-corrosion, marine, atmospheric, and other industrial coatings.
  • Educate customers on the value proposition of coatings based on pure Proxxima64 polyolfefin thermoset products and hybrids combining ProxximaTM systems with other chemistries, to optimize coating performance for various applications within the Coatings segment.
  • Collaborate with technical and commercial colleagues to help grow Proxxima64 business in coating segment.
  • Work in STC lab and leverage 3rd party resource to fabricate defect-free coating samples, to assess corrosion resistance and other performance parameters mimicking targeted industrial service conditions.
  • Assist customers in application processes (spray, brush, roller, etc.) optimization and, where needed, provide guidance on equipment upgrades.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to collect market intelligence and provide technical insights to update Coatings segment strategy and guide new application developments.
  • Work as part of the global team to develop novel technology to strengthen the portfolio of intellectual property, author technical reports and collaterals to develop and promote solutions.

About you

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer/Materials/Coatings Science or related field
  • >3 years hands on experience in solvent based or solvent free high performance coating formulation (e.g., epoxy, PU, polyurea) with commercial success
  • Experience leading technical projects and engaging customers with strong communication skills
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot formulation and application issues across the value chain
  • Knowledge of protective, marine, and anti-corrosion coatings, including industry standards and testing
