Glencore's McArthur River Mine (MRM) is a world-class zinc-lead mine with a strong future. Located in the Gulf of Carpentaria, approximately 900 km southeast of Darwin and 64 km from Borroloola, MRM operates a large-scale open-cut mine producing zinc, lead and silver.

 

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Supervisor to join our team on a FIFO 15 days on / 13 days off roster, providing leadership across our Chemical and Environmental Laboratories.

 

About the Role

Reporting to the Superintendent of Metallurgy your leadership will be key to setting and maintaining the laboratory standards, you will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure the safety, performance, quality and continuous improvement of laboratory operations.

You will lead and develop a high-performing laboratory team responsible for delivering accurate, reliable and timely response. As a NATA-accredited laboratory, maintaining rigorous standards, quality systems and compliance requirements will be a key focus of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visible safety leadership and ensure compliance with company policies, standards and procedures across the Laboratory team.
  • Lead, coach and develop laboratory personnel to achieve safe, efficient and high-performing operations.
  • Ensure the delivery of accurate, reliable and timely laboratory data to meet operational and stakeholder requirements.
  • Maintain NATA accreditation requirements, quality systems, laboratory standards and associated documentation.
  • Ensure the reliability, availability and effective maintenance of laboratory analytical equipment.
  • Optimise people, equipment and other resources to maximise laboratory performance.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement across laboratory.
  • Work collaboratively with key internal stakeholders to understand operational requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose laboratory services.
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and cost management for laboratory operations.

 

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in a laboratory leadership or supervisory role, preferably within a mining, minerals processing, chemical or environmental laboratory.
  • Experience working within a NATA-accredited laboratory environment, with a sound understanding of laboratory quality systems and accreditation requirements will be preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting ICP-MS, IC, XRF and ICP-OES
  • Understanding of ISO 17025
  • Proven experience supervising, leading and developing large or multidisciplinary teams to deliver business outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in budgeting, resource planning and cost management.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and continuous improvement capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A strong commitment to safety, quality and operational excellence.
  • The ability to work effectively and lead teams in a remote mining environment.
