**Python Engineer, Beacon – Gas, Power & Renewables Technology** Join our dynamic GPR Technology team as a Senior Python Engineer. You'll lead risk solution development on the Beacon Platform for Power and Gas trading, owning the full development lifecycle. Key responsibilities include designing and building analytics solutions using Python, integrating quant models, and connecting to market data. This role requires 7+ years of Python experience in a related field, proficiency in data structures and algorithms, and familiarity with trading floor environments.

Main purpose

We are looking for a Senior Python Engineer to join our Gas, Power & Renewables (GPR) Technology team. You will be a core member of a small, high-impact engineering group embedded within a broader team of quants, analysts, traders, and deal desk professionals.

Your primary focus will be building risk solutions for the Power and Gas trading desk on top of Beacon Platform. This is a 100% hands-on development role — you will own the full development lifecycle, from gathering requirements directly with traders and stakeholders through to delivering production-quality solutions.

This role will work directly with the trading desk. Candidates who have previously worked in a trading floor environment will be familiar with the pace and communication style, and will have a natural advantage.

You will be joining a well-resourced, commercially active team at the centre of one of the most dynamic areas of the energy markets. The role offers direct exposure to complex trading activity, close collaboration with quants and traders, and the opportunity to build solutions that have immediate, measurable impact on the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain risk and analytics solutions for the Power and Gas desk using Python on top of Beacon Platform

  • Integrate quantitative models developed by the quant team into Beacon and connect them to relevant market data sources

  • Work in a fast-paced trading environment where decisions are made quickly and feedback is direct

  • Engage directly with traders, quants, analysts, and the deals desk to gather requirements, understand business needs, and present technical solutions

  • Collaborate with other Beacon engineers within the team to ensure consistency, code quality, and shared best practices

  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the GPR technology stack

Required qualifications

  • Strong Python development skills

  • 2+ years of hands-on development experience on Beacon Platform, Quarts, or Athena; candidates with SecDB development experience will also be considered

  • Solid understanding of quantitative modelling concepts — you will not be building models yourself, but you will be integrating them and need to understand what they do

Preferred qualifications

  • Additional experience with Apache Kafka is a plus.

Attributes for success

  • Confident and resilient under pressure — comfortable receiving direct, candid feedback and using it constructively

  • Comfortable engaging with non-technical stakeholders — traders, analysts, and deal desk — to translate business requirements into technical solutions

  • Able to present and explain technical approaches clearly to a mixed audience

  • Self-sufficient and delivery-focused; this is not a role with heavy management oversight

Equal opportunity employer

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and take pride in a diverse workforce! We do not discriminate in recruitment, hiring, training, promotion or other employment practices for reasons of race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, medical condition or handicap, disability, or any other legally protected status.
