**Storage Operations Engineer** role at Qube Research & Technologies, Hong Kong, focuses on managing and scaling on-premises storage within our high-performance computing (HPC) environment. Key responsibilities include supporting, operating, and maintaining Linux-based, large-scale storage systems. The ideal candidate boasts extensive experience in storage infrastructure, strong familiarity with Hadoop, Lustre, and Ceph, proficiency in Shell and Python scripting, and proven Linux administration skills. This role requires a self-starter with a solid understanding of scientific computing and a passion for staying updated with cutting-edge storage technologies. Apply if you're eager to drive innovation in a global quantitative investment firm.

Qube Research & Technologies (QRT) is a global quantitative and systematic investment manager, operating in all liquid asset classes across the world. We are a technology and data driven group implementing a scientific approach to investing. Combining data, research, technology, and trading expertise has shaped our collaborative mindset, which enables us to solve the most complex challenges. QRT’s culture of innovation continuously drives our ambition to deliver high quality returns for our investors.

The Research Infrastructure team is responsible for our cutting-edge, high-performance trading and research infrastructure, including development and maintenance across operating system platforms, software development tooling, high-performance computing, high-performance networking, and large-scale storage systems.

Your Future Role Within QRT

The team is looking for a Storage Operations Engineer to join a newly established local team in Hong Kong, working closely alongside our current team in London.

The successful candidate will work directly with our research and trading teams, focusing on the scalable storage component of our high-performance computing (HPC) on-premises environment. Ideally, you will have a technical background in supporting, operating, and maintaining Linux-based, large-scale, high-performance workloads. Experience with S3, NFS, NVMEoF, and RoCE, as well as vendors such as VAST, WEKA, NetApp, or DDN, would be highly advantageous.

In addition to supporting our user base (many based in APAC), you will liaise directly with vendors to manage the deployment, upgrade, and maintenance of storage infrastructure, and play a key role in incident management, responding calmly and effectively under pressure.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong enterprise storage administration experience who is looking to grow into a modern, high-performance, petabyte-scale storage environment.

Your Present Skillsets

  • 4+ years of experience in storage systems administration and hands-on experience managing large-scale storage environments (petabyte scale preferred), ideally within an HPC or research-driven environment
  • A solid understanding of storage protocols across POSIX-compliant filesystems and S3
  • Knowledge of storage benchmarking, analysis, tuning, and optimization across Linux kernel tuning, network, and storage performance
  • Working knowledge of DevOps tooling, including Terraform, Ansible, Vault, GitLab, and Temporal
  • Working knowledge of Python and/or Golang
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure metric visualization using Prometheus or Victoria Logs and Grafana
  • Preferably, expertise with container technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes

QRT is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome diversity as essential to our success. QRT empowers employees to work openly and respectfully to achieve collective success. In addition to professional achievement, we are offering initiatives and programs to enable employees achieve a healthy work-life balance.
