Software Engineering Lead- Automation Platform

Description -

Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Lead to lead HP’s PC Validation Automation Platform and the multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for its development, operation, and continued evolution.
The platform supports automated PC system validation across software, firmware, drivers, hardware, and lab environments.

This role owns both the engineering organization and the software platform,
ensuring reliable delivery, strong engineering practices, scalable architecture, and effective collaboration with global validation and development teams.
This is not a traditional QA or test automation lead role.

    Key Responsibilities

    Engineering & People Leadership

    • Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team spanning software development, validation/test engineering, and DevOps/infrastructure.

    • Own team structure, resource planning, priorities, delivery, and the overall engineering operating model.

    • Translate platform strategy and business needs into clear execution plans, resource decisions, and measurable engineering outcomes.

    • Balance short-term delivery with long-term investments in architecture, scalability, engineering quality, and technical debt.

    • Drive clear ownership and accountability across development, validation, and infrastructure functions.

    • Represent the platform organization with senior leadership and global stakeholders.

    Platform Strategy & Software Engineering

    • Own the vision, technical strategy, architecture direction, and roadmap of the PC Validation Automation Platform.

    • Drive the evolution of the platform toward a scalable, reusable, and extensible engineering platform.

    • Guide architecture across backend services, APIs, workflow orchestration, execution infrastructure, data, observability, and web interfaces.

    • Establish strong software engineering practices including Git-based development, code review, CI/CD, automated testing, release engineering, and reusable platform components.

    • Ensure platform scalability, reliability, maintainability, security, and operational excellence.

    • Maintain sufficient technical depth to guide major architecture and design decisions and mentor engineers.


    Validation Engineering Enablement

    • Partner with Validation, Software, BIOS/Firmware, Driver, Hardware, and ODM/OEM teams to understand engineering workflows and translate them into reusable platform capabilities.

    • Enable automation across system validation, hardware/software integration, regression, failure reproduction, debugging, and lab execution.

    • Drive adoption of common tools, standards, and engineering practices across global teams.

    • Improve validation efficiency and quality through data, automation, platform capabilities, and continuous improvement.

    AI-Assisted Engineering & Future Platform Evolution

    • Identify opportunities to apply Generative AI, coding agents, and intelligent automation to platform development and validation workflows.

    • Promote AI-assisted software development and Harness Engineering practices to improve development velocity and quality.

    • Explore AI-enabled capabilities such as test generation, failure analysis, root-cause investigation, automated debugging, and workflow optimization.

    • Establish practical evaluation, quality, and governance mechanisms for AI-enabled capabilities before production adoption.

    • Continuously evaluate emerging AI technologies and introduce them where they provide measurable engineering value.

    Required Experience and Skills

    • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, engineering tools, infrastructure, automation engineering, or related technical disciplines.

    • Proven experience directly leading and managing engineers and an engineering team of meaningful scale, preferably around 10 or more people.

    • Demonstrated responsibility for hiring, performance management, team development, resource planning, and prioritization.

    • Experience leading teams across multiple engineering disciplines such as software development, validation/QA, and DevOps/infrastructure.

    • Strong software/platform engineering background with the ability to guide architecture, technical decisions, engineering practices, and software quality.

    • Proven experience building, scaling, or owning software platforms, engineering platforms, developer tools, or enterprise automation systems.

    • Strong understanding of SDLC, DevOps, CI/CD, APIs, observability, and production software operations.

    • Fluent in written and spoken English.

    • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills across technical and executive audiences.

    • Strong development background with technologies such as:
      Node.js / TypeScript / JavaScript for backend services, APIs, and web platform development
      Python for automation, platform services, and engineering tooling
      PowerShell for Windows and system-level automation
      Modern frontend technologies such as React or similar frameworks

    Highly Preferred Experience

    • Experience with PC system validation, hardware/software integration, BIOS/Firmware, Drivers, operating systems, or device validation.

    • Experience working with engineering labs, global engineering teams, and ODM/OEM partners.

    • Experience with GitHub / GitLab / Azure DevOps, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, logging, monitoring, and API integrations.

    • Experience defining engineering productivity, automation effectiveness, quality, or platform adoption metrics.

    • Experience applying Generative AI, coding agents, Agentic AI, or AI-assisted software development to engineering workflows.

    • Experience building or integrating workflow engines, orchestration systems, engineering automation platforms, or AI-enabled engineering tools.
