We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges—striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career. THE ROLE: AMD is seeking a Director of Software Development to lead the development of next-generation automation frameworks and to elevate software engineering excellence across our HW/FW validation software stack. You will own the strategy and execution for scalable automation “flows,” reusable tooling, implementing SW best practices and CI/CD modernization that improves quality, velocity, and operational rigor across multiple projects and teams. Your deliverables will have a critical impact on the quality and efficiency of the validation of complex AI HW/FW systems. This is a highly cross-functional leadership role requiring deep technical breadth and strong people leadership. You will lead managers and senior technical leaders, partner across engineering and operations, and drive adoption of streamlined software best practices end-to-end. THE PERSON The ideal candidate is a seasoned yet hands-on SW engineering leader who: Can drive strategy and architecture but can also work together with the SW engineers on the details. Establishes strong SW engineering practices (CI/CD, code health, release readiness, observability, and test automation). Builds high-performing teams and develops technical leaders. Is familiar enough with datacenter platforms (HW/FW/SW) so that can translate requirements from system validation engineers (automation needs, content issues, data collection features, etc.) into software. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead the design, build, and evolution of reusable automation frameworks and validation “flows” used across multiple projects. Own maintainability, extensibility, and developer experience of the framework(s), enabling teams to write complex content beyond ad-hoc scripts Define and enforce software life-cycle best practices across repos: coding standards, reviews, automated checks, quality metrics, and continuous improvement mechanisms. Champion adoption of modern SW engineering productivity tooling such as AI-assisted code Establish and scale CI/CD standards: build/test automation, pipeline reliability, artifact strategy, and gating practices to improve release readiness and engineering throughput Ensure automation enables scalable data collection/analysis and reporting to drive validation decisions with measurable signals Lead a team that includes managers and senior technical leaders; recruit, develop, and retain top talent. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Several years of experience in software engineering, including 5+ years leading managers / multi-team organizations (30+ engineers). Proven delivery of automation frameworks or complex SW platforms adopted at scale Familiarity with development or validation of datacenters, HPC or Machine Learning systems is preferred as this is the domain where the solutions you create will be used. Consistent record in engineering execution, delivering software on time with high quality, and achieving premium high-performance software solutions. Strong hands-on background in CI/CD, build and release engineering, developer tooling, and modern SCM workflows demonstrated outcomes improving developer productivity and build/test reliability. Experience driving standardized best practices across multiple teams (coding standards, pipeline standards, governance that accelerates rather than blocks). Strong collaboration skills across hardware/software/operations domains; comfort operating in complex, cross-functional environments ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: Bachelor’s degree in computer science (preferred), Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred), or equivalent practical experience. #LI-KW1 This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
