As an Application Engineer for the E-reader Platform, you will diagnose issues in the Kindle OS, mine through large log datasets, monitor key metrics, and maintain dashboards and automated alarms to detect outages. You will partner with multiple teams to root-cause issues and create health monitoring dashboards for Kindle. The role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to prioritize and improve the customer experience. Basic qualifications include 2+ years software development or 3+ years technical support, and scripting/troubleshooting experience; preferred qualifications include knowledge of web services, distributed systems, REST/XML/JSON, and hardware/software RAID.

Amazon Kindle is a customised operating system that is purpose built and optimised for book reading (and note-writing) purposes. As a support engineer, you would be mining through large set of logs to identify patterns of data. You would also own monitoring key metrics, maintain dashboards for them and also create automated alarms to detect failures. You will partner with multiple teams internally for successful root-causing of issues and in creating generic dashboards to monitor health of Kindle.

The ideal candidate must be detail oriented, have superior verbal and written communication skills, strong organisational skills, able to juggle multiple tasks at once. You are able to identify problems before they happen and implement solutions that detect and prevent outages. You are able to accurately prioritize projects, make sound judgments, work to improve the customer experience, and get the right things done.

Key job responsibilities
The ideal candidate must be detail oriented, have superior verbal and written communication skills, strong organisational skills, able to juggle multiple tasks at once. You are able to identify problems before they happen and implement solutions that detect and prevent outages. You are able to accurately prioritize projects, make sound judgments, work to improve the customer experience, and get the right things done.

Basic Qualifications

- 2+ years of software development, or 3+ years of technical support experience
- Experience scripting in modern program languages
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of web services, distributed systems, and web application development
- Experience troubleshooting & maintaining hardware & software RAID
- Experience with REST web services, XML, JSON
