Senior Software Development Engineer to build and operate a high-performance, cloud-native simulation platform for advanced robotics development at Amazon. You will design, scale, and operate infrastructure supporting distributed simulation workloads and learning pipelines, with a focus on C++ and Python codebases. The role includes owning CI/CD pipelines, tooling for simulation environments and assets, and improving observability, reliability, and reproducibility to accelerate robotics innovation. You will collaborate with robotics and research teams to productionize capabilities into scalable software systems and enable large-scale validation and benchmarking workflows.

Amazon's Industrial Robotics Group is seeking exceptional talent to help develop the next generation of advanced robotics systems that will transform automation at Amazon's scale. We're building revolutionary robotic systems that combine innovative AI, sophisticated control systems, and advanced mechanical design to create adaptable automation solutions capable of working safely alongside humans in dynamic environments. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of robotics and automation at an unprecedented scale, working with world-class teams pushing the boundaries of what's possible in robotic dexterous manipulation, locomotion, and human-robot interaction.

We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to help build and operate the simulation platform supporting advanced robotics development at Amazon. This role focuses on designing and scaling high-performance, cloud-native infrastructure that enables distributed simulation workloads, learning pipelines, and automated validation systems. You will play a key role in transforming advanced simulation capabilities into reliable, maintainable, and scalable software systems that accelerate robotics innovation.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and operate the core simulation platform infrastructure supporting large-scale robotics development and learning workloads
- Architect and scale cloud-native systems in AWS, including distributed job orchestration, resource management, and cost-efficient compute utilization
- Own CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and automated testing infrastructure for complex C++ and Python codebases
- Develop and maintain tooling to manage simulation environments, assets, and versioned artifacts across teams
- Improve performance, reliability, and reproducibility through observability, profiling, and automated regression systems
- Establish and enforce software engineering best practices, including modular architecture, code quality standards, and long-term maintainability
- Partner with robotics and research teams to productionize advanced capabilities into robust, scalable software systems
- Enable large-scale validation, benchmarking, and certification workflows through automated evaluation infrastructure

About the team
Our team is building a comprehensive simulation platform for advanced robotics development, combining locomotion and manipulation capabilities. We operate at the forefront of physics simulation, reinforcement learning, and sim-to-real transfer, collaborating with world-class robotics engineers, applied scientists, and mechanical designers in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

Basic Qualifications

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Programming skills in C++ and Python, with solid foundations in data structures, algorithms, and software design
- Experience designing and operating scalable, distributed, or cloud-based systems
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and modern build systems
- Experience developing maintainable, production-quality infrastructure supporting engineering, ML, or scientific computing workflows

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related technical field
- Experience building internal developer platforms or engineering productivity tooling
- Experience operating GPU-accelerated or large-scale compute workloads in cloud environments
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience improving and maintaining large C++ codebases
- Experience supporting research-to-production or prototype-to-scale transitions
- Exposure to robotics or simulation systems, including familiarity with common robotics formats and toolchains
- Experience with modern simulation ecosystems (e.g., Isaac Lab, MuJoCo, Drake)
- Experience developing or supporting scalable evaluation, benchmarking, or training workflows
- Contributions to open-source robotics, simulation, or infrastructure projects
