Join Amazon Appstore Commerce as a Software Development Engineer II who will design, develop, and maintain critical order processing, checkout, and payment workflows. You'll build scalable, reliable APIs and services for payment processing, implement secure checkout flows, and optimize transaction success rates across global marketplaces. You will work with cross-functional teams to integrate with Amazon payment systems and ensure high availability of mission-critical commerce infrastructure. You will contribute to architectural decisions, code reviews, and operational excellence, with a focus on reducing payment friction and improving conversion rates.

The Software Development Engineer will design, develop, and maintain business-critical order processing, checkout, and payment workflows for Amazon Appstore Commerce. This role requires building scalable, reliable systems that handle millions of transactions across global marketplaces while ensuring seamless customer experiences.

Key responsibilities include developing robust APIs and services for payment processing, implementing secure checkout flows, optimizing transaction success rates, and reducing payment friction. The engineer will work with cross-functional teams to integrate with Amazon payment systems, and ensure high availability of mission-critical commerce infrastructure.

The ideal candidate brings strong software development skills, experience with distributed systems, and a customer-obsessed mindset. They will contribute to architectural decisions, participate in code reviews, and drive operational excellence through monitoring, alarming, and continuous improvement of system performance.

Key job responsibilities
You will be responsible for the architecture, design, and delivery of critical distributed systems, influencing the team on the right technical direction, making key technology decision, coaching and developing engineers, and improving the overall maintainability of these systems. You will need to drive innovations and think big to bring in step function changes from the current status quo.



A day in the life
You will need to engage with senior engineers to review key designs, architecture.
You will review key customer and operational metrics, look at system health.
You will problem solve complex ambiguous problems.
You will code critical and complex modules.
You influence senior leaders and propose architecture to support future needs.

The Checkout and Payment team delivers business-critical order processing, checkout, and payment workflows that enable the Appstore Commerce organization's vision of empowering partners to build thriving businesses through diverse transaction models.

The team implements checkout flows with industry-leading conversion rates and minimal latencies, with diverse payment options for the global customer base. They integrate with Amazon payment systems, develop robust APIs and services for payment processing, and optimize transaction success rates.

Team directly impacts developer monetization and customer purchase experiences. Success means delivering features that increase conversion rates, reduce payment failures, and enable developers to grow their businesses.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- 2+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
