Lead a strong team of software engineers to build a high-performance storage service/engine supporting diverse database workloads. Responsible for mentoring, guiding the full development lifecycle and operations, and defining roadmaps with product teams. Focus on low-level and distributed systems, and scaling broadly distributed libraries and build tooling used across Amazon. Drive process improvements to increase software velocity and quality while upholding operational excellence.

The Language Experience team in Builder Tools is the center of excellence for Amazon's use of programming languages, highly-leveraged shared software, and application build tools.

Our tools are used in all aspects of the business, and their care and evolution are of critical importance to the effectiveness of Amazon. We're looking for a deeply technical leader interested in sustaining and evolving the shared software platform used by nearly every service within the company. Those with experience evolving broadly distributed and highly complex software libraries, such as large open source projects and mission critical foundational software stacks will be given an opportunity to have company wide impact.

Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Manager on the storage team, you will be responsible for leading a strong team of software engineers to build a high performance storage service / engine that is able to support all types of database workloads. You will be responsible for mentoring and coaching a high performing team of engineers with expertise in both low-level and distributed sysetms You be responsible for the full development life cycle and and operation of services. You will with the product team and other engineering teams to help build the roadmap and ensure the right thing is being built and delivered to customers.

A day in the life
You will take on a variety of tasks, balancing priorities to ensure the team's success:
- Create, prioritize, communicate, manage, and execute roadmaps, projects, and other commitments.
- Set clear, measurable goals for the team and regularly communicate status of development, quality, operations, and system performance.
- Lead the team to improve processes to deliver higher software development velocity and quality.
- Lead team operational strategy defining metrics, improvements and support.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement through coaching, mentoring, and feedback.

About the team
The Builder Tools Language Experience team is responsible for the core tooling used by builders across the company. We are responsible for the package managers, compilers, 3rd party software registries, and servers frameworks that the rest of the company builds their software on top of. We have a high talent density of language experts supporting customers who need support pushing the limits of their software stack.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- 3+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience developing compilers and build systems

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
