The Amazon Books team is seeking a System Development Engineer to improve workflows, reduce manual workload through application development and process automation.

The candidate will develop production applications and services to ensure a positive customer experience that is inline with Amazon business objectives. They have an understanding and empathy for Amazon’s customers and business objectives, particularly those aspects relevant to the team and division (where “division” is an organization which can include about 150 people).

The Systems Development engineer will continually align their work with Amazon’s business objectives and seek to deliver business value. They proactively and continually improve their level of knowledge about Amazon’s business and relevant technologies. They regularly work across multiple teams to resolve issues.

- Develop and maintain production applications and services that optimize workflows and enhance customer experience
- Design and implement automation solutions to optimize manual processes across the Books organization
- Align technical work with Amazon's business objectives and deliver measurable business value
- Collaborate across multiple teams to resolve issues and drive scalable solutions
- Continuously improve knowledge of Amazon's business and relevant technologies to stay ahead of evolving needs
- Partner with stakeholders to understand team and divisional goals, ensuring solutions meet business requirements

About the team
Katalyst-Tech is part of Amazon's ROSE (Risk, Operations, Success and Engagement) organization, specializing in Application Engineering, Robotic Process Automation, and scalable web-based services to drive operational efficiency and customer experience for the Books organization. The team has delivered 100+ successful projects over three years, with a growing portfolio of AI/LLM-powered solutions.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
- Experience tools for automation (building, testing, releasing or monitoring)
- 3+ years of DevOps or SysOps in a large-scale software development environment experience

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of Python scripting language
- Experience on highly concurrent, high throughput systems and knowledge of complex distributed systems
- Experience with distributed operational health and performance monitoring systems
- Experience with iterative, agile development methodologies (including scrum)
