The ICON team in Dublin is expanding and seeks a System Development Manager to lead a team of System Development Engineers responsible for building, automating, and operating Amazon's Intelligent Cloud Hosting technologies that power our distributed hosting infrastructure. You will drive operational excellence and resiliency, lead large-scale incident management, and shape the next generation platform orchestration and automation. The role requires hiring, developing, and retaining a world-class engineering team and collaborating with internal and external partners across global sites to ensure security, availability, and efficiency of Amazon’s web services. This position is based in Dublin, Ireland.
The ICON team is located within the Intelligent Control (ICC) organization who owns connecting our worldwide websites and other consumer experiences such as Kindle, Amazon Video, and Alexa to the internet, as well as ensuring the highest level of availability, security and privacy of the web services that power the experience we deliver to our customers worldwide.
The Role
ICON is looking for a System Development Manager to lead a third team of System Development Engineers in Dublin. Our global team has sites in Seattle, New York, Dublin, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Sydney. In this role, you are a key leader that influences the building, automating, and operating of Amazon’s current and next generation Intelligent Cloud Hosting technologies used to manage our highly distributed hosting infrastructure.
Key job responsibilities
Lead and manage a team that drives organizational standards for operational excellence and resiliency.
• Establish relationships with internal and external partners and peer stakeholders to understand and meet their needs while operating existing systems at a high level of Operational Excellence.
• Lead the team through large scale incident management/escalations to resolve outages and communicate with a global audience and senior leadership.
• Develop and maintain a culture of innovation and operational excellence in the teams.
• Manage the design and development of next generation platform orchestration and automation.
• Hiring, developing, and retaining a world class engineering team that meets Amazon’s high bar.
• A successful candidate will be an experienced leader with an established background in developing and operating platforms and services, developing and hiring top talent, technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field- Experience in systems engineering and operations leadership for an Internet service or leading-edge IT organization
- Experience in managing system or software development teams
- Experience (hands-on) in systems engineering and administrative work in networking, storage systems, and operating systems
- Experience in agile software development methodology
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
- Experience with Agile engineering practices (Kanban, continuous delivery, etc.)
- Experience with AWS platforms, services, and design patterns
