Barclays is hiring an Ops Engineer to design, build and operate scalable, secure cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines, ensuring reliable 24x7 delivery of digital services. The role requires hands-on AWS experience (EC2, ECS, S3, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch, API Gateway, Glue, etc.), strong CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code skills, and familiarity with observability and log aggregation tools. You will manage incidents, perform root cause analysis, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate with cross-functional teams including development, infrastructure and security. The position is based in Pune and values automation/scripting (Python/Java) and ITIL practices in a banking environment.

To be a successful Ops Engineer, you should have experience with:

  • AWS Expertise: Hands-on experience with core AWS services such as EC2, ECS, S3, Kinesis, DynamoDB, IAM, Lambda, CloudWatch, API Gateway, and Glue.
  • Operational Excellence: Ability to ensure 24x7 availability, monitor, and resolve incidents using observability tools like CloudWatch and CloudTrail.
  • CI/CD & IaC: Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code (CloudFormation); familiarity with log aggregation tools such as CloudWatch Logs and ELK.
  • ITIL Practices: Solid understanding of incident, change, and problem management in banking/financial environments.
  • Troubleshooting: Strong root cause analysis and performance optimization capabilities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Aptitude for identifying recurring issues and driving process optimization.

Desired Skillsets/Good to have:

  • Stakeholder Communication: Ability to translate technical issues into business impact and maintain clear communication during incidents.
  • Collaboration: Experience working with cross-functional teams (development, infrastructure, security) for release management and support.
  • Leadership in Crisis: Skilled in managing escalations and coordinating resolution efforts with senior stakeholders.
  • Automation & Scripting: Strong skills in Python/Java for automating operational tasks.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
