For our Core Infrastructure Services programme at our London location, we are looking for you to join us as soon as possible as
Senior Backup Engineer / Architect*
Innovation & Technology @ Berenberg
In an era in which digitalisation and modern IT infrastructures are revolutionising banking, we are shaping a technology-driven bank in which you, as an IT professional, will work closely with our business divisions. Our technology teams offer you an environment that presents you with exciting challenges – whether through the support and further development of legacy systems or the introduction of modern technologies such as AI, machine learning and highly automated trading applications.
Our IT department, with around 300 employees, works largely in an agile manner using a Scrumban approach and covers areas such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, operations, process and governance, software development and architecture. We are particularly proud to develop almost all of our applications in-house, which gives us unique flexibility and innovative strength. Our tech stack in the area of core infrastructure services is based on a highly available environment with VMWare virtualisation and Citrix. We rely on a hybrid server landscape consisting of Windows and RHEL, robust network and firewall architectures from Citrix, and storage systems from Pure and Netapp. At the heart of it all are our database systems with Oracle, MS-SQL, and Azure SQL. Everything is secured by modern backup solutions from Dell and Rubrik, and our stack is rounded off by M365 and Exchange for seamless collaboration.
Your role in the team
In our "Linux, Storage & Backup" team, we combine the tradition of a private bank with state-of-the-art IT infrastructure. We are in the midst of a major modernisation: moving away from legacy systems and towards Rubrik. To this end, we are looking for an expert who not only administers, but also helps to shape the architecture of our data backup.
You will be the technical lead for our new backup strategy. You will accompany us in replacing Dell Networker/Data Domain and implement a future-proof Rubrik environment for our on-premise and cloud services.
What tasks await you?
- You will be responsible for the design, installation and configuration of the new Rubrik solution.
- Planning and managing the transfer of existing backup procedures to the new environment
- Conceptual creation of backup designs for our cloud integrations (M365, Salesforce, Azure)
- Ensuring ongoing operation (including troubleshooting) and monitoring using BACKUP EAGLE
- You will be the first point of contact for auditing and governance for all questions relating to data security and recoverability (disaster recovery)
Who are we looking for?
- Successfully completed IT or Technology degree with relevant professional experience
- Several years of experience as a systems engineer in the storage/backup environment, ideally in the banking or enterprise sector
- In-depth knowledge of Linux is essential. Experience with Rubrik is a big plus; alternatively, in-depth knowledge of enterprise backup solutions (Dell Networker, Cohesity, Veeam, Commvault) and a desire to learn Rubrik
- A very good English skill is essential for working in our international teams, knowledge of German would be a great plus.
What we offer you:
- Private pension plan - 10% of base salary contribution by Berenberg
- Generous 30 day holiday allowance
- Private Health Insurance
- Life Insurance scheme
- Flexible working hours
- Enhanced parental leave policies
- Employee Assistance Programme offering counselling sessions related to mental health, financial wellbeing and other topics
