BNY Mellon is hiring a Mainframe Automation Operation engineer to support and maintain mainframe automation infrastructure across multiple sites. The role requires expert-level REXX scripting, deep knowledge of the z/OS environment and automation products, and experience designing failover/resilience solutions. Responsibilities include troubleshooting system errors, implementing change-control practices (Git), creating runbooks and documentation, and training teams. Preferred skills include GDPS, ServiceNow, Moogsoft, Jenkins/Zowe, Ansible, APIs and mainframe tooling (JCL, ISPF/TSO, SQL).

We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Mainframe Automation Operation to join our TSG Mainframe team. This role is in NY/NJ, Lake Mary, Pittsburgh.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
- Supporting mainframe automation infrastructure using Broadcom’s OPS/MVS and System State Manager
- Expert-level REXX scripting for developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automation routines
- In-depth knowledge of the z/OS operating environment and core automation products
- Demonstrated experience configuring and supporting automation failover in a multi-site environment, ensuring seamless transfer of all processes between locations
- Strong troubleshooting skillset: diagnosing system errors, preparing detailed problem reports and driving fixes
- Solid change-control discipline: peer code reviews and version control (Git)
- Excellent written/verbal communication—creating runbooks, process documentation and delivering team training
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. - Advanced degree preferred. Typically, 6-10 years of experience.
- Proven ability to partner with other mainframe infrastructure managers, consulting on design and implementation of automated solutions within their domains
- Proven ability to gather functional requirements, design automation workflows and document processes Strong troubleshooting skillset: diagnosing system errors, preparing detailed problem reports and driving fixes
- Solid change-control discipline: peer code reviews and version control (Git)
- Excellent written/verbal communication—creating runbooks, process documentation and delivering team training
Preferred qualifications
• Experience with GDPS and Safeguarded Copy for workload resilience and disaster recovery
• ServiceNow ITSM ticketing and workflow automation experience
• Moogsoft (or similar AIOps/event-management) platform familiarity
• DevOps tooling: Jenkins (including Zowe plug-in), Ansible automation
• API configuration and RESTful integration skills
• Proficiency in SQL, JCL, ISPF/TSO

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $68,000 and $129,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
