About the Role:
This is a high-leverage leadership role combining platform infrastructure that multiplies engineering effectiveness across the entire organization with ownership of our most engaged content verticals—Barron's, MarketWatch, Investors Business Daily, Financial News London, and Private Equity News.
As Senior Director of Engineering, you will lead our Wealth & Investing portfolio and Product Platform Engineering teams. In this unique opportunity, you'll own the platform teams that set standards and the product teams actively building with AI-driven development practices, giving you direct insight into what works and the ability to scale those practices across the organization. You will have 4-6 direct reports and oversee an organization of ~90 Engineers. You will report to VP Engineering, Products & Platforms.

Your Role Will Entail:
Strategic & Organizational Leadership
Define long-term technical strategy and organizational structure for Product Platform and W&I engineering
Drive company-wide technology messaging and represent the organization in external forums and executive discussions
Shape long-term stakeholder alignment, ensuring technology strategy supports broader business goals
Contribute to solving systemic, company-wide engineering challenges
Technology Consolidation & Modernization
Lead the migration of all Wealth & Investing brands onto our latest technology stacks
Define the consolidation strategy that enables shared investment and accelerated delivery across brands
Ensure platform capabilities developed for W&I can be leveraged across all of engineering
AI-Driven Engineering Leadership
Bring AI development tools and practices to the organization at scale
Work directly with teams already using AI tools to understand what's effective
Codify successful patterns into platform tooling and standards that benefit the entire engineering org
Talent Development & Team Building
Lead a large-scale engineering organization focused on multiple domains
Develop senior leaders (Directors, Senior Managers) through mentorship and coaching
Define talent strategy, influencing hiring and succession planning across your organization
Guide resource allocation to support business priorities and growth
Execution & Delivery
Align technology investments with company-wide impact and business strategy
Drive collaboration at an enterprise level, ensuring Technology is integrated into company-wide decisions
Work consistently with abstract ideas and situations across functional areas
Anticipate factors that could influence strategies and company position in the market
Cross-Functional Partnership
Interact with internal and external executive-level management, requiring negotiation of critical matters
Drive enterprise-level collaboration, breaking down silos between Platform, Product, and Brand teams
Partner with Product and Design leadership on long-term planning and roadmap alignment
You Have:
Experience
15+ years of experience in software engineering, with progressive leadership responsibility
Experience leading both platform/infrastructure and product engineering teams
Track record of scaling engineering organizations and developing engineering managers into strong leaders
Experience driving technology modernization and platform consolidation initiatives
Leadership & Talent Management
Experience defining talent strategy and succession planning at scale
Skill in navigating complex stakeholder relationships and negotiating at the executive level
Technical Depth
Master-level technical proficiency—able to guide technical strategy and partner with Principal/Staff engineers on major decisions
Experience with modern web and mobile platform architectures
Understanding of AI/ML tooling and how it's transforming engineering workflows
Strategic Thinking
Ability to define long-term technical strategy and organizational structure
Experience anticipating technological and market shifts and shaping priorities accordingly
Track record of driving innovation while balancing pragmatic delivery
Problem Solving
Comfort working with abstract, ambiguous challenges across functional areas
Experience solving difficult problems with enterprise-wide impact

Pay Range: $220,000 - $270,000
