Who We Are

At Goldman Sachs, we connect people, capital and ideas to help solve problems for our clients. We are a leading global financial services firm providing investment banking, securities and investment management services to a substantial and diversified client base that includes corporations, financial institutions, governments and individuals.

About the role

We’re seeking an early-career engineer to learn and contribute across cloud platform operations for Marcus Deposits. You’ll support infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, reliability, and day-to-day operations; build automation in TypeScript; and collaborate with application teams, Tech Risk, and vendor platforms. This role emphasizes hands-on learning, great documentation habits, and steady growth toward independently operating production services.

What you will do

Support the design and operation of AWS infrastructure (EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS, Lambda/ECS/EKS) using CloudFormation and AWS CDK with reusable patterns and guardrails.

Contribute to CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI/Jenkins/GitHub Actions/AWS CodePipeline), including automated tests, build/deploy jobs, and basic quality gates.

Assist with container workflows (Docker; EKS/ECS) and progressive delivery under guidance (blue/green, canary).

Help maintain runbooks, change records, and standards; participate in incident response by shadowing on-call and handling triage/documentation tasks.

Automate routine operational tasks using TypeScript and scripting; codify ops playbooks and checks.

Support security and resiliency implementations: IAM least-privilege via templates, secrets management, network segmentation configurations under supervision.

Assist with basic cost and performance hygiene (tagging, right-sizing recommendations, autoscaling parameters).

Collaborate with application teams, Tech Risk, and vendor platforms; keep evidence and documentation current.

Support ecosystem integration tasks as assigned (Kafka-based eventing, MongoDB-backed services).

Basic qualifications

Experience (internships, projects, or full-time) in DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineering or software engineering with cloud exposure.

Foundational AWS knowledge (IAM, VPC, EC2, RDS, Lambda/ECS/EKS).

Experience with CloudFormation and AWS CDK (coursework or project-based acceptable).

Familiarity with TypeScript for automation and infrastructure coding.

Linux fundamentals and shell scripting basics.

CI/CD fundamentals with one or more tools (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or CodePipeline).

Containers basics (Docker) and understanding of orchestration concepts (EKS/ECS).

Foundational networking and security understanding (VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, network ACLs, IAM policies).

Clear communication, curiosity, strong documentation habits, and willingness to learn.

Preferred qualifications

AWS certification preferred (e.g., Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect – Associate, or Developer – Associate).

Familiarity with observability stacks (CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana, Splunk/ELK, Datadog) and alerting practices.

Exposure to GitOps (Argo CD/Flux) and service mesh fundamentals; APM/RUM familiarity (Dynatrace/New Relic).

Scripting in Python or Bash/Go helpful for automation.

Exposure to Kafka, MongoDB, microservices, and distributed systems concepts.

Experience or coursework related to regulated environments (financial services) and basic audit/control evidence practices.

Familiarity with PagerDuty and willingness to participate in on-call shadowing.

Awareness of cost governance (tagging standards, budgets, and right-sizing).
