We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of Lending Technology.

Business: Wealth & Prem Solutions Tech

Principal responsibilities

  • Accountable for the end-to-end Lending Technology portfolio across regions (secured and unsecured lending), executing technology strategy to drive growth, cost-efficiency, risk control, people capability and innovation.
  • Define and drive the strategic direction and roadmap for the lending technical estate (origination, decisioning, servicing, collateral/securities management, collections), including platform modernization or replacement.
  • Balance day-to-day operations with a major transformation agenda (cloud, DevOps/CI‑CD, single code base, data/model governance), ensuring resilience, scalability and regulatory compliance.
  • Own incident and major outage management for lending systems, leading escalation, remediation and post-incident learning to minimize customer and business impact.
  • Orchestrate quarterly planning, prioritization and dependency management to maximize benefit realization and keep delivery aligned to business outcomes and budgets.
  • Enable delivery by resolving major blockers, optimizing resource and vendor allocation, and managing costs to ensure timely release of high-quality lending features.
  • Influence and secure buy-in from senior stakeholders (Business, Risk, Finance, Audit, Regulators) on programme plans, budgets, scope, risks and contingency approaches.
  • Champion a customer-centric approach to continuously improve end-to-end lending experiences, strengthen brand perception, and maintain strong third‑party relationships (credit bureaus, custodians, servicing partners, fintech).

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Act as a role model for transformation and lead through change, managing the efforts of global teams including all aspects of data processing design, development, acquisition, testing, conversion and production support.
  • Serve as the primary change agent, who will establish alignment at all levels of the organisation, encouraging speed, agility, and accountability, as well as anchoring transformation through bold and rapid decision-making.
  • Act as a senior executive of Technology to face off to stakeholders at all levels. Management of the relationship with the regional business counterparts (Business COOs / Business CEOs) and ensure the delivery of end-to-end services that are relevant to the needs of the region.
  • Build a world class Technology team, with leadership and technical capabilities to support the regional business strategies, to enable us to stay competitive and a leader in financial services industry.

Operational Effectiveness & Control:

  • Proactively manage risks (including cyber security), implement control, and test control effectiveness, according to HSBC defined risk management framework.
  • As a Control Owner, exercise controls for operational risks, ensure adherence to all set governance and policies and demonstrate responsibility for delivering timely remediation where control deficiencies are identified
  • Responsible for ensuring control monitoring is conducted and reported to risk owners (including testing by BRCMs), and control procedures are validated (using a combination of exception reports, self-certification, and sample reviews) in the GB/GF
  • Supporting audit / independent programme assessments as required
  • Ensure HSBC is not put at any operational or reputational risk.

Knowledge & Experience/Qualifications

An experienced Banking Technology leader with a proven, hands-on track record delivering large-scale lending platforms. We will priorities demonstrable technical delivery capability and practical engineering leadership over pure line-management experience. Must possess the following:

  • Proven, hands-on leader of technology delivery for large-scale retail lending (secured and unsecured, incl. POS and personal loans).
  • Deep domain knowledge across the lending lifecycle: origination/decisioning, pricing, underwriting, servicing, collateral/securities management, collections and accounting integrations.
  • Strong architecture and platform experience: cloud-native, microservices, AI-first, CI/CD, automated testing, observability and platform reliability engineering.
  • Practical track record of platform modernization/migrations and delivering measurable improvements in time-to-market, availability, cost and quality.
  • Experience operationalizing model scoring with model governance, reproducible deployments and auditability for credit decisioning and pricing.
  • Clear understanding of credit risk drivers and regulatory requirements for consumer/point-of-sale lending; proven delivery of compliant technical controls.
  • Hands-on DevOps and agile-at-scale delivery experience; able to resolve technical blockers, lead design reviews and mentor senior engineers.
  • Vendor and fintech partner selection, integration and governance experience to accelerate delivery while controlling cost and risk.
  • Commercially minded with evidence of balancing risk vs reward and optimizing cost-effectiveness for lending products.
  • Strong stakeholder, communication and cross-functional leadership skills; proven ability to build and retain critical technical talent.
  • Respectful of different cultures and experienced working with colleagues across all five regions (North America, LATAM, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Europe).
