Lead Software Engineer on the Athena Core Platform team responsible for designing, building, and operating resilient, cloud-native solutions. You will partner with global engineering teams to transform on-prem systems to scalable cloud architectures, focusing on Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD. The role requires leading technical strategy, troubleshooting complex issues, and driving automation to improve operational stability. You will also lead communities of practice and promote engineering best practices across the organization.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Commercial and Investment Bank, Merkets Technology, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.
Job responsibilities
- Aligning technical strategy with other partner teams across the bank to deliver a complete and coherent experience for Athena Developers
- Execute creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
- Partner with a global team of engineers through a transformation of the Athena Core Platform to a resilient and scalable cloud based architecture
- Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
- Lead communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
- Working knowledge of load balancing and service orchestration, both on-prem and in public cloud environments
- Proficient in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Python, Java
- Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
- Practical Cloud-native and Kubernetes experience
- In-depth knowledge of Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform
- Add to team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect
- Experience running Kubernetes (AWS EKS) at large scale for financial organizations where scaling, resiliency, security, monitoring and audit trail etc. will be prioritized
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code products, preferably Terraform
- Experience in one or more public cloud platforms (ideally AWS)
- Experience in DevOps will be considered an advantage
