Lead Software Engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and operating cloud database solutions and automated CI/CD pipelines for database provisioning. Work with application teams to migrate and optimize MySQL/PostgreSQL databases on private and public clouds (AWS RDS, GCP SQL) and ensure performance, scalability, and high availability. Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform, integrate cloud-native monitoring and alerting, and troubleshoot database and networking issues across hybrid environments.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Commercial and Investment Banking - Payments team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

Job responsibilities

  • Understands the firm’s database infrastructure environment and technology modernization pathway  
  • Works with application teams to help them migrate to the latest database products and versions on our private cloud or onto the public cloud. 
  • Designs and implements automated CI/CD pipelines for database provisioning and deployment using Terraform, ensuring consistent and repeatable infrastructure changes. 
  • Develops and maintains Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) modules for database resources, networking, and monitoring integrations. 
  • Uses expertise to help maximize the performance, resiliency of the application workloads and optimize database performance, capacity, and scalability. 
  • Implements network monitoring solutions to track database connectivity, latency, and throughput across hybrid cloud environments. 
  • Troubleshoots and resolves database issues, including query tuning, indexing, and deadlock resolution. 
  • Collaborates with developers to refine database schemas, optimize queries, and improve application performance  
  • Ensures 24/7 availability and reliability for mission-critical systems through proactive monitoring and maintenance. 
  • Participates in cloud database administration on AWS (RDS, EC2) and Google SQL Database  
  • Integrates cloud-native monitoring and alerting solutions for proactive issue detection and resolution 

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Proven experience in database administration ( MySQL , PostgreSQL ), including migration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on expertise with cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS and Google Database . 
  • Strong proficiency in designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines for database deployment using Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles
  • Experience with database networking, monitoring tools, and proactive alerting solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor)  
  • Solid understanding of database performance optimization, capacity planning, and scalability strategies  
  • Proficient in query tuning, indexing, deadlock resolution, and schema design  
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery planning, backup/restore automation, and high-availability architectures  
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with application developers and cross-functional teams to optimize database and application performance  
  • Strong documentation skills for maintaining database configurations, operational procedures, and deployment processes  
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Experience with security patching, compliance checks, and cloud governance best practices is a plus  
  • Ability to tackle design and functionality problems independently with little to no oversight.
