As an Executive-level Senior Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Global Technology group, you will lead teams in designing and delivering trusted, market-leading Observability products. These solutions will empower technologists across the firm to observe and manage their applications and platforms on both public and private cloud environments. You will be responsible for integrating modern technology solutions, leveraging cloud technologies to build Full Stack and Synthetic platforms that enhance application resiliency and stability firmwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of robust Full Stack and Synthetic observability solutions in EOP, expanding your expertise in observability and cloud technologies, including Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Design and implement pre-configured, opinionated tools that streamline workflows for engineering teams.
  • Build scalable, firmwide observability platforms used by thousands, applying world-class engineering principles and the latest technologies.
  • Oversee software design, development, and technical troubleshooting, employing innovative approaches to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Identify underlying issues and patterns in data, using these insights to improve coding standards and system architecture.
  • Collaborate with other teams to deliver integrated, cohesive solutions that enhance the customer experience.
  • Produce architectural and design artifacts for complex applications, ensuring alignment between design constraints and software development.
  • Mentor engineers, promoting best practices and disciplined code hygiene within the team.
  • Contribute to software engineering communities of practice and participate in events exploring emerging technologies.
  • Foster a team culture rooted in diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience. In addition,  5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
  • Comprehensive understanding of AWS fundamentals, including compute, networking, storage, security policies, and application deployment.
  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Proficiency in coding in one or more languages, specifically Java and Python.
  • Proven experience leading large teams through software engineering design and implementation challenges.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to communicate proposed designs and approaches to engineering audiences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software applications, technical processes, and large-scale observability solutions (e.g., Dynatrace).
  • Commitment to continuous learning and exploration of new technologies.
  • Experience working in agile team environments.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Enthusiasm for observability, with a passion for improving products and creating reliable systems for customers.
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more observability platforms, such as Dynatrace, Thousand Eyes, Apica, Grafana, etc.
  • Experience with cloud automation technologies, such as Terraform.
  • Expertise in EKS and ECS.
  • Understanding and experience with Open Telemetry (OTel) standards and tools.
  • Ability to build secure applications, utilizing tools to identify and remediate vulnerabilities, and employing modern techniques to manage access to applications and APIs.
Manage efforts to develop advanced observability tooling, enabling deep insights into application performance and reliability.
