Job Description

Site Reliability Engineer – Azure (Public Cloud Platform)

Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire

Salary: £47,790-£53,100

At Lloyds Banking Group, we’re driven by our purpose – Helping Britain Prosper. It shapes our decisions, our ambitions and how we show up every day.

The world is changing rapidly, and so are we. It’s an exciting time to join us as we modernise our technology platforms and transform how we use cloud to deliver more secure, resilient, and innovative services for our customers.

About the Team

Our Cloud Platform team is a well‑established, solution‑focused engineering group driving one of the UK’s largest financial‑services transformations. We're modernising the bank’s next‑generation technical platform and partnering with product teams across the organisation to deliver secure, scalable cloud solutions for:

  • Analytics
  • GenAI/ML
  • Databases
  • Storage
  • Serverless HPC
  • Application workloads

Our remit is broad: from product curation and data‑platform capabilities to automation, quality assurance, and embedding AI into our engineering flows. Everything we build aims to empower teams and improve the developer experience.

About the Role

We’re building a cloud platform that is quick, secure and resilient for customers – and modern, easy and environmentally conscious for developers.

This role focuses on Microsoft Azure, and we’re particularly interested in people with experience in any of the following:

  • Azure: AKS, Azure Policy, Batch, Key Vault, SQL, Storage, API Management
  • Engineering fundamentals: Networking, Security, IAM, Platform Engineering
  • Tooling: Terraform, CI/CD (Harness or GitHub Actions), PowerShell, AZ CLI, Git workflows, Backstage, Dynatrace

We’re looking for a Site Reliability Engineer with strong Azure experience. Your time will be split between:

  • Managing and resolving incidents
  • Improving operational excellence
  • Driving automation and reducing toil
  • Participating in an out‑of‑hours support rota

About You

You’ll collaborate with Engineering Leads and Product Owners to shape and deliver our platform roadmap. You’ll contribute to planning, prioritising, automation, and continuous improvement. You’ll work across internal teams and technical communities, sharing knowledge, developing reusable capabilities, and supporting early‑career engineers through mentoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply hands‑on engineering to maintain our Infrastructure‑as‑Code and CI/CD‑based products and services
  • Improve reliability and customer experience by enhancing automation and reducing manual effort
  • Drive operational excellence across monitoring, incident management, problem resolution, cost optimisation and reliability
  • Take accountability for the health of production and non‑production environments
  • Investigate and resolve service issues, implementing fixes and improvements through code
  • Contribute to Agile ceremonies and support continuous learning within the team
  • Provide technical expertise to help assess and manage risk
  • Communicate incident updates clearly and regularly with customers and stakeholders
  • Apply SRE principles, including chaos engineering where appropriate, to improve resilience

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong DevOps experience, with IaC and CI/CD pipelines (Terraform, Jenkins, Harness, or Azure DevOps)
  • Experience working with a broad range of public‑cloud technologies
  • Ability to write and maintain scripts (Python, Groovy, PowerShell, Bash)
  • Solid understanding of cloud security principles
  • Strong problem‑solving capability and structured thinking
  • Experience with monitoring tools and techniques

Desirable Skills

  • Experience using SDKs and APIs for automation
  • Certifications in Azure or another cloud provider (e.g., GCP)
  • Transferable experience from sysadmin, software engineering or similar technical fields
  • Technology‑agnostic mindset, adaptable in approach
  • Enthusiasm for continuous learning and cloud best‑practice

What You’ll Get in Return

We’re committed to equal opportunity and building a workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We focus on inclusion every day so colleagues can be themselves, feel they belong and thrive.

Alongside a supportive team culture, you’ll receive:

  • A performance‑based share bonus
  • A flexible benefits allowance
  • A generous pension contribution
  • Private health cover
  • Up to 30 days annual leave (plus the ability to purchase more)
  • Access to colleague share schemes

If you have the skills we’re looking for and want to be part of a major cloud and data transformation, we’d love to hear from you.
