Lead and architect the Path Team's transformation of Microsoft Planner into a high-scale, AI-powered work management platform across Microsoft 365. Design and deliver core capabilities for a distributed system operating at internet scale, including API design and cross-service integrations with Teams, SharePoint, and Exchange. Mentor engineers, champion a Live Site culture, and partner with Program Management to enable exponential growth in usage while ensuring secure, reliable product delivery.
We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead this transformation—designing and delivering core capabilities for a platform that operates at internet scale and integrates deeply with Microsoft 365 services.

Responsibilities
- Solve complex challenges in distributed systems and help shape the vision for agentic, AI-powered work management.
- Architect and implement core features for the Task and Work Management platform. Ensure secure, high-quality product delivery, overseeing system architecture and code quality.
- Design robust APIs and object models to power new experiences across web, mobile, and Teams.
- Optimize, refactor, and debug code to ensure performance, maintainability, and ROI.
- Drive innovation in service deployment and reliability, minimizing manual intervention.
- Collaborate across Microsoft 365 teams (Teams, SharePoint, Exchange) to deliver cross-service integrations.
- Partner with Program Management to design, implement, test, and iterate on features that enable 10x growth in usage.
- Mentor engineers and Champion a Live Site culture, ensuring exceptional reliability and customer delight.
- Embody Microsoft’s Culture and Values in all aspects of work.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience designing and implementing hyperscale distributed platforms and cloud services.
- Experience in high-scale service architecture, Azure technologies (Azure Kubernetes Service, Cosmos DB, Blob Storage), and modern cloud patterns.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
