Overview

The Azure Core Trusted Platform team safeguards Microsoft’s foundational cloud infrastructure by ensuring our engineering systems, services, and workflows meet the highest standards for security, privacy, and regulatory compliance. Microsoft runs on trust, and our team builds the platform‑level capabilities that enable safe‑by‑default, compliant engineering across Azure—embedding transparency, traceability, and automated safeguards directly into how teams build and operate services.

As a Senior Software Engineering Manager on the team, you will lead and grow a group of engineers delivering critical, cross‑cutting platform capabilities used throughout Microsoft. You’ll set technical direction, drive execution, and balance short‑term delivery with long‑term platform health, ensuring reliability, security, and compliance at scale. Your role includes coaching engineers, fostering strong engineering fundamentals, and creating an environment where high‑quality design, operational excellence, and continuous learning thrive. Our work increasingly leverages AI‑powered and agentic workflows, intelligent automation, and privacy‑aware generation and validation to address complex compliance and safety challenges in scalable and innovative ways. As a manager, you’ll guide how these technologies are applied responsibly—partnering closely with product, security, and compliance stakeholders to translate ambiguous requirements into clear technical strategies and executable plans.

Responsibilities
  • Coaches and drives partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within teams for features and fundamentals.
  • Coaches teams and drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Coaches team members within the team in producing extensible and maintainable code.
  • Lead, mentor and help other software developers grow in their career.
  • Coaches others and acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers across products, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
  • Seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, .NET, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Min 2+ years people management experience.
  • Technical depth to coach engineers
  • C#, .NET, Java will be benicial
  • Other Requirements:

    • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
      • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
