Take a hands-on role on the Azure DevOps Platform and Applications teams in Europe as a Software Engineer, focusing on backend services health, performance, and scalability. Design, develop, test, and support features primarily in C#. Lead and provide technical direction for end-to-end solutions, participate in on-call rotations, and mentor teammates to foster growth. You will troubleshoot across the full stack and contribute to building a reliable, scalable service used by thousands of developers.

Overview

Azure DevOps (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/devops) is a suite of modern development services that enables software development teams to plan smarter, collaborate more effectively, and deliver faster with high-quality results. It offers cloud-hosted private Git repos, proven agile work tracking system, comprehensive CI/CD capabilities, and robust testing tools to empower developers to build innovative software seamlessly.

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Platform and Applications teams in Europe.
The Platform team focuses on core services such as Authentication, Authorization, Billing, and Security—foundational capabilities that power Azure DevOps at scale. The Applications team owns customer‑facing experiences including Azure DevOps Repositories, Pipelines, and Work Items.

In this role, you will be focused on enhancing the health, performance, and scalability of our backend services which will help us deliver great experience for software development teams.

As a team, we are interested in smart, self-driven individuals, with a positive can-do attitude, who come to work with a smile and enjoy writing clean and elegant code and are excited about providing support to the customers.

Azure DevOps should be a good fit for you if you like to tackle the complexity of huge distributed system that operates at the scale for 100s of thousands of developers.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test and support features, experiences, and solutions primarily in C#.
  • Lead and provide technical direction for the design and development of features, experiences, and solutions for end-to-end business scenarios.
  • Support highly available services used by top companies and millions of developers on a daily basis.
  • Troubleshooting of complex issues through the entire tech stack including frontend and database layers.
  • Participate in on-call rotations with your team. Triage and respond to issues and advocate for opportunities to improve service health.
  • Mentor, pair, participate in code reviews, and delegate work to encourage the professional and technical growth of those around you.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • You’ve done this before - Software development experience.
  • You can code - Demonstrable experience with C#, C++, Java or any other OOP language.
  • You have good collaboration skills - Excellent analytical skills as well as communication skills both verbal and written. We are a distributed team, so we are extra mindful about communication.
  • You’re a professional engineer – you understand that it’s not enough to write code that works; it also must be well-designed, easy to test, and easy to add to over time.
  • You want to learn to get things done - Ability to understand unfamiliar code bases, debug client and service side applications (including database stored procedures).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS or similar cloud computing platforms is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of testing principles.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks completely and independently and generate clarity in ambiguous situations.
  • Troubleshooting skills across network, application, caching, queuing, load-balancing storage and distributed services layers.

This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
