We are hiring a Software Engineer to join the Azure Compute Platform team to help develop scalable, secure Azure Compute services. The role involves solving complex distributed systems challenges, collaborating with multiple teams, and focusing on security and reliability at scale. You will act as a Designated Responsible Individual for monitoring and degradation scenarios and contribute to improving availability, observability, and performance across Azure services.

Overview

The Azure Compute Platform team, a cornerstone of Azure Cloud’s infrastructure, is experiencing rapid growth. This team leads the way in tackling global challenges with cutting-edge advancements in distributed systems and cloud-native security. The solutions they develop are crucial to the operations of all customer workloads on the Azure cloud.

We are seeking a Software Engineer to work with Azure’s core engineers in leading the development of the Azure Compute service, ensuring its scalability and security. We are looking for someone who thrives on solving complex problems and excels at collaborating with various teams to address intricate issues. The ideal candidate will work with urgency while maintaining a strong focus on security.

Responsibilities
  • Work with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features. Contribute to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for an area for our highly available, globally distributed services.
  • Create and implement code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable to solve complex engineering challenges in data management, performance, durability, scale, and security and resiliency.
  • Collaborate with engineers across Azure to deliver seamless data resiliency integrations. Continuously improve reliability, cost efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.
  • Review current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience in object-oriented programming or managed code (e.g., C#, Java, C++, Go, or similar).
  • 1+ years of professional software engineering experience in designing, building, and testing services or large-scale systems.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience with one or more of the following:
    • Cloud services or distributed computing.
    • REST-based service design and integrations across complex ecosystems.
    • Participating live-site accountability.

This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
