The Role: This role is for a platform services group called Core Services.
The Core Services team seeks a talented, enthusiastic, and results-driven technology manager to manage
its technical team in Mumbai office. Core services team is responsible for designing architecture &
services for enterprise-wide solutions. It specializes in standardized implementation of ‘application
independent’ services. This team contains technologists working in SaaS, PaaS and IaaS solutions, Infra
as a Code initiative. The candidate would need to be experienced with agile methodologies, who comes
from hands on development or DevOps background and has contributed in architecting enterprise
solutions. This role requires managing a team of technocrats who create scalable, shared, multitenant
technical services over cloud, perform POC for setting up new services for multi-data center/ cloud
infrastructure, compare various frameworks for the same, support existing services etc. The candidate
needs to be well versed with enterprise architecture, system & protocol level programming &
troubleshooting, networking concepts, latest technological trends etc. This team will not develop any UI /
application but rather architect & maintain the shared services consumed by various applications across
Morningstar.

Responsibilities

• Act as liaison between Morningstar’s global Core services and Engineering team.

• Set up roadmap, goals cascade and status report to evaluate the progress against each goal area.

• Regularly align with Platform Engineering, Cloud Services, CMDB along with CIO and CTO goals.

• Create and oversee project timelines, tasks/responsibilities, and deliverables. Participate in estimate gathering and review. Bring innovative projects to stabilize and optimize Devops, CICD & SRE Stack.

• Founding the Team: Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of Platform and SRE engineers.

• Platform-as-a-Product: Define the roadmap for our internal developer platform, ensuring it solves real friction points for our engineering squads.

• Lead and coordinate new client implementations, including interaction with client technical and business teams.

• Manage Core Services 24*7 Operations and ensure operational excellence and best customer satisfaction by highest uptime and quickest troubleshooting.

• Manage the Release Engineering Shift Operations and ensure operational excellence and best customer satisfaction by highest uptime and quickest troubleshooting.

• Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-scale CI/CD systems, including reusable pipelines and standard release patterns across diverse technology stacks.

• Architect scalable and secure deployment platforms leveraging modern infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes, GitHub, IaC, etc.).

• Partner with platform and development teams to define DevOps strategy and standards; drive adoption across product teams.

• Manage or serve as Scrum Master & Technical Project Delivery Lead in managing sprints and working with team members to resolve issues backlog and eliminate roadblocks.

• Adopt and adhere to Morningstar’s Project Management Framework.

• Lead technologists and technical designs by actively contributing technically.

• Identify project risks, develop mitigation plans, and escalate potential impediments to success to

• stakeholders and see it through eventual resolution.

• Manage and communicate regular updates on project status (e.g., work completed, work in progress, next steps, risks, KPIs, and costs) to stakeholders, peers, Product PMO, and others.

• Collaborate with groups throughout Morningstar to proactively identify and manage dependencies.

• Identify opportunities to improve our operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree is required.

• 10+ years of total experience; with a mixture of 5+ years of Devops / SRE experience & 3+ year’s tech

• management architecture / tech leadership experience is required.

• Strong knowledge of DevOps, SRE & CMDB Development

• Knowledge of 24*7 operations, Agile - Scrum & Kanban methodologies, is required.

• Experience managing technical projects and tech teams including DevOps architects, Operations Leads and technical project managers

• Experience or a personal interest in technology is highly preferred. Knowledge of AWS, Linux, Python and other programming languages a must.

• Technical skills and education are desirable with Jenkins, CICD, Harness, EKS, Docker, GitHub, Kubernetes, terraform, bitbucket, SonarQube.

• Proven success in facilitating team collaboration across multiple offices, with a willingness to collaborate with Chicago-based Morningstar teams and client contacts Product Teams around the globe.

• Drive Automations, AIOps of infrastructure provisioning using Terraform, AWS CDK, or similar tools.

• Experience with API Governance – access, capacity management, usage tracking, discoverability etc. Experience with Kong API Gateway & AWS API Gateway is a big plus.

• Experience with Apache Kafka or any Messaging Services would be big plus.

• A demonstrated ability to manage multiple, Extra-large projects with aggressive timelines and wide, challenging scope.

• Excellent communication, time management/organization, problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.

• Ability to lead team decision-making processes and foster an environment of healthy team debate and collaboration.

• Comfort in dealing with ambiguity; ability to create focus and keep the team on track.

• Prior experience using JIRA project and issue tracking software is a plus.
