Junior Dev Ops Engineer Cryptography - Early Career Program

You’re at the start of your career and ready to combine software development with security in a real‑world banking environment. What impact will you make on the future of secure banking with your talent for software development and cryptography? 

The role 

During this Junior DevOps Engineer role at Rabobank, you will build your career by supporting cryptographic challenges within the bank, contributing to secure cryptographic solutions, and deepening your knowledge of postquantum security. You will start in a junior position, always paired with a senior Engineer, and quickly gain practical experience in Cryptography and DevOps. You will grow into a fully skilled DevOps Engineer with a solid foundation in cryptography and security, allowing you to add value to multiple teams across the IT chain. 

And then? After completing the program, you will be ready to continue your journey with us as a Junior DevOps Engineer, equipped with valuable skills and a strong network within the bank. You will have the opportunity to specialise or explore areas you enjoy most, contributing to both your personal growth and Rabobank’s mission to grow a better world together. You will participate in workshops and training modules and spend most Fridays in training sessions at our Utrecht offices or online.  

Practical examples 

As a Junior DevOps Engineer, you will 

• Support banking applications in addressing and solving cryptographic challenges. 
• Co‑create a secure, developer‑friendly cryptographic toolkit that standardizes Rabobank‑approved algorithms, including post‑quantum cryptography, and enforces secure defaults to prevent misconfiguration. 
• Support in‑control and compliance activities while learning to work with cryptographic standards, regulations, and post‑quantum security requirements. 

You and your future  

During our Early Career Program, you’ll develop your career over 18 months by becoming an expert in your field. Throughout the program, you’ll stay with one team and receive training to enhance your hard skills. You’ll be paired with a buddy who will guide you in navigating the bank. For your personal development, you and your fellow starters will follow the Early Career Program and receive guidance from a DevOps Engineer. We’re here to prepare you for sustainable career!

Your development as a young professional 

Within this program, you will have the opportunity to get to know yourself, the field, and Rabobank. You will start in a junior position within Team Enigma, work together with experienced colleagues, and follow training modules to gain handson experience quickly. Creativity and initiative are encouraged: organize events, knowledge sessions, or training sessions and build a valuable network.

You and your talent 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security, Cyber Security, or a related technical field. 
• Programming experience; experience with one or more of the following is a plus: Java, C++, Python, OpenSSL, XML, PHP, or similar. Basic knowledge of cryptography concepts (such as certificates, keys, or encryption) or a strong motivation to learn them on the job. 
• Maximum of 2 years of working experience
• Results-driven, strong communication skills, proactive in finding answers/solutions, and eager to learn from colleagues;  
• Familiarity with network principles (e.g. TCP/IP, certificates, TLS, or basic security concepts).The ability to thrive in a dynamic, high‑impact environment where security and reliability are critical. 
• Fluent in English (Dutch is a plus). 
• Eligible to work in the Netherlands
