Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence and ensure reliable, secure Azure-based solutions.

About this role:

Wells Fargo is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to drive the evolution of our Azure cloud platform by building scalable, secure, and resilient Azure foundations.  In this role, you will provide technical leadership to engineering teams, mentor developers, define and champion best‑in‑class cloud engineering practices, and influence cloud strategy across the organization.

The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with Azure landing zones, Terraform, cloud governance, event‑driven architectures, and modern DevOps/GitOps tooling. This role requires strong engineering leadership, architectural thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams to deliver innovative, enterprise‑grade cloud solutions.

In this role, you will:

  • Translate business objectives and enterprise technology requirements into Azure‑based engineering solutions, leveraging mastery of Azure services (e.g., App Services, AKS, Functions, Service Bus, Event Hub, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, APIM) and aligning architectures with organizational strategy, cloud governance, and modernization roadmaps.
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to engineering teams and senior leadership, defining cloud best practices, engineering standards, reference architectures, and patterns for reliability, performance, scalability, and security within Azure.
  • Stay current on Azure advancements, industry best practices, and emerging technologies, and proactively recommend innovations such as cloud-native architecture, AI/ML capabilities, automation, and DevOps improvements to drive operational excellence and competitive advantage.
  • Engage and influence stakeholders across engineering, security, infrastructure, and product organizations, serving as a trusted expert advisor on Azure strategy, architectural decisions, and enterprise cloud transformation initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of overall GCP and Azure engineering experience
  • 5+ years hands on experience with designing and operating enterprise-scale landing zones and subscription governance.
  • 3+ years with GCP cloud foundation services (VPC networking, governance frameworks, monitoring, IAM security)
  • 3+ years of working with Cloud Operations teams to provide L3 support for complex GCP issues, driving root cause analysis, and building processes to eliminate repeat incidents.
  • 3+ years of Terraform experience, including authoring reusable modules, implementing IaC standards, managing state securely and delivering infrastructure automation for enterprise GCP and Azure environments.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong experience with cloud platform architectures, including multi‑cloud and hybrid‑cloud deployment patterns.
  • Broad domain expertise across networking, compute, storage, security & compliance, identity and access management, encryption, and observability.
  • Advanced knowledge of GitOps, policy‑as‑code, and enterprise configuration management patterns.
  • Deep experience in automation and tooling, including Terraform and GitHub (Actions, repos, workflows).
  • Hands-on experience with SRE practices, including incident management, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
  • Strong understanding of GCP Identity and Access Management (IAM), including service accounts, Workload Identity Federation, RBAC, KMS, Secrets Manager, resource hierarchy governance, and organizational policy enforcement.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, PowerShell, and Terraform, with the ability to design and build reusable engineering frameworks.
  • Experience with Privileged Identity Management (PIM), least‑privilege access enforcement, and segregation of duties.
  • Practical experience with event-driven automation using Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Event Grid, or similar services.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and leading global, cross‑functional engineering teams.
