Google is seeking a Software Engineer III for the Shopping and Exporting Platform. You will expand the Shopping Metrics and Exporting Platform SQL and RPC offerings, and build infrastructure for large-scale, high-throughput batch data processing (hundreds of PB) using C++, Flume, and related technologies. You will participate in design reviews, mentor more junior team members, and develop solutions for low-latency interactive querying while working across distributed processing systems such as F1 Batch and Dreampipe. This role requires deep expertise in C++ and distributed systems, with opportunities to push the boundaries of the platforms used in Google Commerce.

Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
- 2 years of experience with software development using C++.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
- 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.
- Experience dealing with complex datasets, including aspects like policy, access controls, data sharing, etc.

You will develop a deep understanding of distributed processing (F1 both streaming and batch, and Flume), and also of the various storage and scheduling tech stacks that Google has. A lot of the work that happens in the team is pushing the boundaries of the technologies we work with, so the ideal candidate needs to be willing and able to dig deep into the inner workings of other frameworks / platform.People shop on Google more than a billion times a day - and the Commerce team is responsible for building the experiences that serve these users. The mission for Google Commerce is to be an essential part of the shopping journey for consumers - from inspiration to to a simple and secure checkout experience - and the best place for retailers/merchants to connect with consumers. We support and partner with the commerce ecosystem, from large retailers to small local merchants, to give them the tools, technology and scale to thrive in today’s digital world.
Responsibilities
- Build infrastructure supporting large scale, high throughput batch data processing (100s of PB) using C++, Flume, F1 Batch, Dreampipe.
- Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
- Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Develop solutions for low latency interactive querying of our data using technologies such as C++, Laelaps.
- Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
