Google is seeking a System Software and Performance Engineer for Silicon to advance custom silicon solutions powering Google devices. You will perform in-depth search analysis on workloads and kernels to identify performance bottlenecks, plan ARM architecture features, and collaborate with Android workload owners, tool-chain experts, and device teams to implement full-system optimizations. You will design benchmarks and modeling methodologies to guide the next decade of hardware/software co-design. The US base salary range for this role is $132,000-$189,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience with programming in C/C++ or Java, and scripting languages (e.g., Python).
  • Experience in one or more of the following three areas: linux kernel (e.g., processes, threads, scheduling, syscalls, interrupts and exceptions), toolchains (e.g., compilers, JIT compilation and symbolization) or, android system software stack.
  • Experience conducting full-stack performance analysis and optimization on software systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science, with an emphasis on computer architecture.
  • Ability to be a fast and effective learner and to be comfortable with working on issues with ambiguity.
  • Ability to diving into new technical territories.

  • Plan and evaluate ARM architecture features, providing data-driven insights that shape future SoC designs.
  • Partner with Android workload owners, tool-chain experts, and device teams to implement full-system optimizations.
  • Design the benchmarks and modeling methodology that will define the next decade of hardware/software co-design.
