Join the Fire TV Hardware team to design, implement, and validate low-level firmware and device drivers for MCUs, peripherals, and custom silicon across silicon revisions. Architect modular firmware for novel technologies with independent research and prototyping to deliver production-ready code that integrates into the full product software stack. Use advanced debugging techniques (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD debuggers, serial consoles) to diagnose hardware–software interaction issues and drive root-cause analysis to resolution. Write and maintain automation scripts in Bash/Shell, Perl, and Python to automate testing, firmware flashing, log parsing, and CI/CD, and collaborate with hardware design, RTL, test, and program management teams to define firmware requirements and review architectures.

Do you want to work at the intersection of hardware and software, building the firmware and drivers that power devices used by millions of customers? This role offers the opportunity to solve complex, first-of-their-kind embedded systems challenges and directly shape the foundation of shipping products.

Key job responsibilities
- Design, implement, and validate low-level firmware and device drivers for MCUs, peripherals, and custom silicon — including I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, DMA, USB, and PCIe — and lead hardware bring-up activities for new boards and silicon revisions in close collaboration with hardware design engineers.
- Architect firmware solutions for novel technologies with no prior implementation reference, conducting independent research, prototyping, and iteration to deliver production-ready, modular code that integrates cleanly into the full product software stack.
- Apply advanced debugging techniques using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD debuggers, and serial consoles to diagnose complex hardware-software interaction issues and drive root cause analysis to resolution.
- Write and maintain scripts in Bash/Shell, Perl, and Python to automate testing, firmware flashing, log parsing, hardware validation, and CI/CD integration; develop and leverage test infrastructure to validate firmware functionality and system-level performance across multiple hardware revisions.
- Partner with hardware design, RTL, test, and program management teams to define firmware requirements, review schematics, and resolve interdisciplinary technical issues; participate in code reviews, mentor peers on embedded systems best practices, and produce clear technical documentation including architecture design documents and driver interface specifications.

A day in the life
In this role, you will collaborate closely with hardware design teams to bring new silicon and peripheral technologies to life. You will write firmware and low-level drivers that form the core of our devices, working through hardware bring-up from early silicon to production. You will navigate technical ambiguity, interpret hardware datasheets, and develop solutions that operate reliably at the system level.

About the team
We are the Fire TV Hardware team, responsible for the hardware platform across all Fire TV programs — including Amazon's own 1P smart TVs and partner-branded TVs with Hisense, Insignia, Toshiba, and TCL. Our team works across the full hardware lifecycle, from early silicon evaluation and reference design bring-up through mass production with Contract Manufacturers and ODMs.

You will work alongside a collaborative, cross-functional team that includes hardware engineers, embedded software engineers, and hardware engineering program managers. We partner closely with platform software, connectivity, and security teams, as well as silicon vendors, to deliver reliable, high-quality products to customers worldwide.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience
- Knowledge of Python and/or C++ programming
- Experience writing low level drivers
- Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware
- Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

Preferred Qualifications

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Familiarity with Android Open Source Project (AOSP) architecture, build systems (e.g., Soong/Make), and platform-level software development
