The Principal SCADA Engineer will support and optimize a multi-site, high-availability Generation Management System, providing SCADA engineering, troubleshooting, and operational support across power markets. The role involves developing, deploying, and maintaining OSI-Monarch SCADA systems, RTU/RTAC programming, custom displays, and integrations with historians and market interfaces. The engineer will ensure reliability between GMS and external/internal customers, mentor junior staff, and support market requirements across ERCOT, PJM, ISO-NE and others. The position requires on-rotation 24x7 on-call availability and close collaboration with operations, trading, and external customers.

Job Description:

The Principal SCADA Engineer is responsible for supporting the multi-site, high availability Generation Management System in the power markets.  The candidate will ultimately assist in support and troubleshooting of the operational SCADA environment as well as ensuring optimized monitoring and reporting for solid system reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform project management and setup on all generation and load resource on-boardings of EMA customers.
  • Develop, deploy, modify, and troubleshoot OSI-Monarch SCADA systems (PDS, QAS, PROD)
  • Provide support for programming and troubleshooting of RTU/RTAC.
  • Designs, installs, optimizes, supports and troubleshoots all aspects of the overall system, insuring solid reliability between GMS system and external energy markets and all internal and external customers.
  • Build custom SCADA displays for internal staff and external customers to provide real-time and scheduling information, KPIs, one lines, historical trends, and improved situational awareness.
  • Ensure current and future business and technical requirements are accessed for all energy markets.  This includes ERCOT, PJM, ISO-NE, NYISO, CAISO, SPP, WECC, Northwestern BA, Texas Reliability Entity (TRE), NERC CIP standards, etc.
  • Train and mentor new SCADA engineers, developers, asset managers, energy controllers, traders, origination, executives and external customers on system and market knowledge.
  • Technologies/Applications in Scope:
    • OSI Monarch Suite and interfaces
    • OSISoft Pi Historian and interfaces
    • C Programming
    • MODBUS / DNP3 / ICCP / PI to PI
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 & SQL Server 2014
    • Plant communications and connectivity (MODBUS/DNP/ICCP/Pi to Pi Connections)

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related
  • 10+ years of verifiable experience in supporting SCADA systems
  • 5+ years experience in supporting OSI-Monarch SCADA systems
  • Understanding of NERC CIP security principals
  • Experience with supporting a Microsoft based server infrastructure; Microsoft SQL experience a plus
  • Programming knowledge with C, C++, C# or Python
  • Understanding of WAN and VPN concepts
  • Able to provide on rotation, after hours (24 x 7) on-call support
  • Understanding of energy markets, including ERCOT, PJM, ISO-NE, NYISO, CAISO, SPP, WECC, Northwestern BA, Texas Reliability Entity (TRE)
  • Knowledge of NERC CIP standards preferred
