The Microsoft Applied Sciences Group incubates disruptive technologies for nextgen hardware products and works on exciting projects that shape how people interact with computers. We are seeking a Hardware Engineer 2 to design and develop embedded systems and firmware for next-generation hardware devices. This role focuses on PCB design, board bring-up, and embedded firmware development, contributing to innovative hardware prototypes and products.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop embedded hardware and firmware features for electronic devices.
  • Contributes to board bring-up, debugging, and hardware/software integration.
  • Create and execute test plans to validate performance and reliability.
  • Document designs, manage schedules, and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Interface with manufacturing partners to ensure successful production.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND some technical engineering experience
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND solid technical engineering experience
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in hardware/embedded systems development.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in PCB design (e.g., Altium), hardware debugging, and C/C++ firmware.
  • Experience with low-power design and BLE.
  • Solid communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
