Join Microsoft's Base OS team in Azure Compute as a Software Engineer responsible for live site operations, reliability, and performance of the Azure OS platform powering VMs and core services. Overview

The Base Operating System (OS) team in Azure Compute is seeking a talented Software Engineer who can handle live site operations and ensure the smooth running of the Operating System (OS) underlying the Azure platform. The team is responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of the Operating System (OS) platform that supports core services and virtual machines in Azure. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to design and implement solutions that improve the Operating System (OS) platform and deliver value to our customers.

In Base OS, we are responsible for the Operating Systems that power Azure, Microsoft's Linux OS, the platforms for Windows Client and Xbox, and our Windows Server ecosystem – through all of these, we support every one of our cloud businesses and billions of customers around the world. Responsibilities
  • Designs and develops new automation solutions for incident analysis and hands-off mitigation.
  • Collects and analyzes data on various metrics to identify key areas to invest engineering opportunities.
  • Investigates, diagnoses, and mitigates key issues impacting the Operating System (OS) platform.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python,
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python,
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python,
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting mission critical systems in production.
  • Experience building and shipping production grade software or services.
  • Experience supporting production systems in a live site model.
  • Experience working with distributed systems in a cloud environment.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
