Seeking a Vulkan framework, backend and kernel optimization engineer with deep expertise in GPU compute, SPIR-V code generation, and end-to-end AI performance. You will design, optimize, and deploy high-performance Vulkan compute kernels and compiler backends, collaborating with ML, runtime, and hardware teams to push performance on modern GPU architectures. Responsibilities include developing Vulkan compute kernels, profiling bottlenecks, building Vulkan runtime infrastructure, and extending SPIR-V IR builders and code generation pipelines for efficient tensor workloads. Strong C/C++ development and experience with AI compilers and ML workloads are required.

Company:

Qualcomm India Private Limited

Job Area:

Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Systems Engineering

General Summary:

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled Vulkan framework, backend and kernel optimization engineer with deep expertise in GPU compute, SPIR‑V code generation, and end‑to‑end performance optimization for AI workloads. In this role, you will design, optimize, and deploy high‑performance Vulkan compute kernels, build compiler backends, and collaborate closely with ML, runtime, and hardware teams to push the limits of performance on modern GPU architectures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize Vulkan compute kernels using GLSL/SPIR‑V for high‑throughput AI/ML workloads.
  • Conduct profiling and bottleneck analysis of Vulkan kernels using tools such as GPU counters, and vendor‑specific profilers.
  • Build and maintain Vulkan runtime infrastructure, including descriptor management, pipeline setup, command buffer orchestration, and resource scheduling.
  • Develop and extend SPIR‑V IR builders and code generation pipelines, enabling automatic lowering from tensor IR to efficient GPU kernels.
  • Implement performance‑critical schedules (tiling, fusion, parallelism, caching) for Vulkan backends.
  • Collaborate with framework teams to optimize end‑to‑end model lowering for computer vision and LLM workloads.
  • Design and implement robust compiler/runtime components using modern C/C++, leveraging advanced programming paradigms for high‑performance systems.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
    OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
    OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

    Required Qualifications

    • Strong hands‑on experience in Vulkan compute programming, GLSL/SPIR‑V, and GPU performance optimization.
    • Deep understanding of GPU architecture, memory hierarchies, and async compute.
    • Experience with Vulkan runtime internals, SPIR‑V tools, and compiler IR pipelines.
    • Proficiency in C/C++ for system level development.
    • Good to have experience on AI compilers (TVM/MLIR/LLVM/XLA) including tensor IR, scheduling, and code generation.
    • Strong background in machine learning fundamentals, covering both CV and LLM workloads.
    • Experience with kernel profiling and bottleneck analysis on GPU platforms.
