Lead Engineer to design and develop Linux virtualization and high-performance networking for next-generation compute and accelerator platforms, combining kernel/driver work with virtualization technologies and RDMA/RoCEv2. The role includes contributing to KVM, QEMU, libvirt, and LXD/LXC virtualization stack components, implementing RDMA transport capabilities, and driving performance tuning across VM/host boundaries. You will collaborate with kernel, platform, firmware, and cloud infrastructure teams to deliver production-quality virtualization and RDMA solutions at scale, provide technical leadership, and mentor more junior engineers. Upstream contributions to Linux kernel or virtualization projects are encouraged when aligned with the roadmap.

Qualcomm India Private Limited

Job Area:

Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Software Engineering

General Summary:

Position Summary

The Cloud Software organization is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to lead design and development of Linux virtualization and high‑performance networking capabilities for next‑generation compute and accelerator platforms. This role combines deep kernel/driver work with virtualization technologies and advanced networking (PCIe, RDMA/RoCEv2). The engineer will collaborate closely with kernel, platform, firmware, and cloud infrastructure teams to deliver production‑quality virtualization and RDMA solutions at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain Linux kernel and driver components related to virtualization, PCIe, RDMA/RoCEv2, and high‑performance I/O paths.
  • Contribute to KVM, QEMU, libvirt, and LXD/LXC virtualization stack components.
  • Implement and enhance RDMA transport capabilities (RoCEv2), queue pair management, memory registration, completion semantics, congestion control, and multi‑host scalability.
  • Drive performance tuning across VM/host boundaries, including PCIe topology optimization, IOMMU/SMMU interactions, and DMA/buffer management.
  • Debug complex issues spanning firmware, kernel, hypervisor, and user‑space, including virtualization/driver interactions and low‑level performance bottlenecks.
  • Build automation, tools, and observability for driver validation, RDMA testing, and virtualization workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including platform bring‑up, cloud runtime, compiler, firmware, and CI organizations.
  • Prepare high‑quality design documents, participate in architecture reviews, and provide technical leadership and mentorship.
  • Contribute upstream to Linux kernel, RDMA subsystem, or virtualization projects when aligned with roadmap.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands‑on Linux systems development.
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Linux kernel internals, kernel driver development
    • KVM virtualization
    • QEMU device models and acceleration
    • libvirt domain and resource management
    • LXC/LXD container/VM orchestration
    • PCIe architecture (RC/EP, hotplug, interrupts, DMA, IOMMU)
    • RDMA / RoCEv2 (verbs, QPs, CQs, MR lifecycle, congestion control)
  • Proficiency in C/C++, Python, and Bash.
  • Strong debugging experience (perf, ftrace, bpftrace, gdb, kdump, tracing frameworks).
  • Proven ability to deliver production‑quality features across kernel and user‑space.
  • Capability to communicate clearly complex design ideas

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ARM or x86 virtualization extensions (VT‑x, AMD‑V).
  • Experience with multi‑host/cluster fabrics, GPU‑direct, or high‑performance storage networking.
  • Background in confidential compute, virtualization security, or attestation frameworks.
  • Upstream contributions to Linux kernel, RDMA, QEMU, libvirt, or LXC/LXD are a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD systems, automated validation pipelines, and cloud deployment architectures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of Software Engineering or related work experience.

• 2+ years of academic or work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
