The Spectacles student employment is a full-time position for the duration of 3 to 6 months. You will join the CoreOS team to help develop OS-level features for Spectacles, focusing on graphics, power, storage solutions and interprocess communications. You will tackle technical challenges across the graphics and display stack, producing high-performance code with direct impact on Snap products. You will collaborate with a mentor and teammates on a student worker project and acquire/apply new software engineering skills.

We are looking for a Software Engineering PhD or MS student to join our student worker program at Snap Inc

What you’ll do:

The Spectacles student employment is a full-time position for the duration of 3 to 6 months. We aim to offer students industry exposure and hands-on experience. Your start date is flexible and can be arranged together with the hiring manager.

As a student worker you will work on the CoreOS team to help us develop cutting edge AR experiences for future Spectacles. CoreOS team’s mission is to develop OS level features for Spectacles such as graphics, power, storage solutions, interprocess communications and more.

Additionally, you will: 

  • Tackle technical challenges across the graphics and display stack of Spectacles

  • Produce high-performance code that will have a direct impact on Snap products and technology

  • Collaborate closely with a mentor and fellow team members on a student worker project

  • Acquire and apply new software engineering skills

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong computer science fundamentals

  • Knowledge of GPU programming and GPU architecture

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and software debugging skills

  • Ability to collaborate with other engineers and across different teams

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a MS or PhD program in a technical field, such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

  • You must be legally permitted to work in Austria as a student

  • Proficiency in programming C/C++ for Linux-based platforms

  • Good knowledge of graphics APIs (Vulkan/OpenGL) and shader programming (GLSL)

  • Comfortable working with a Linux terminal (e.g., Bash)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with debugging and optimizing GPU workloads

  • Interest in working with embedded and resource constrained systems

  • Positive attitude and willing to learn and contribute in the area of augmented reality devices

  • Experience with Git, CMake, working on Linux, and embedded systems
