Role
We are looking for an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our team. This is a hybrid role based in Bangalore, reporting to the Sr. Director, Software Engineering within the Engineering department. You will be a key development engineer responsible for designing, developing, and testing mission-critical enhancements to the Zscaler nanolog database and its associated services. Your work will focus on the evolution of query parsing, streaming architectures, and high-efficiency data storage to power our global cloud infrastructure.
What you’ll do (Role Expectations)
- Design, develop, and test enhancements to the Zscaler nanolog database and associated services
- Develop advanced features in query parsing and planner modules, including new functionalities for the Zscaler query language in metrics-based data stores
- Optimize log collection and streaming to third parties, implementing efficient storage and compression algorithms
- Troubleshoot complex issues within production clouds, profiling code to identify and improve efficiency in hot spots
- Architect large-scale, maintainable software components that support distributed systems at scale

What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)
- 7+ years of software development experience with deep expertise in C programming
- Strong working experience in database kernels, specifically focused on query optimizations
- Expert knowledge of Unix systems and a strong command of Algorithms and Data Structures
- Proven track record in developing large, maintainable software architectures for distributed systems
- Experience building scalable systems with expertise in high-performance computing, multi-threading, and memory optimization
What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and HTTP protocols
- Direct experience in compiler development or advanced language design
