Google's Security team seeks a Security Engineer for Platform Security and Privacy. You will work with network equipment and monitor for attacks, collaborate with software engineers, hardware engineers, product managers, and UX researchers to identify and fix security flaws, and perform static and dynamic code analysis, application penetration testing, and design reviews. You will help secure existing products and guide new products to be developed with security in mind, including exploit demonstrations and developing fixes for common vulnerability patterns. You will partner with other security teams, including privacy engineers, to ensure our products have the best security the industry offers.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with security assessments or security design reviews or threat modeling.
  • 2 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security and security protocols.
  • 2 years of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with threat modeling, vulnerability research, security reviews, and secure software development practices.
  • Experience in vulnerability discovery and analysis, design auditing, and code-level security auditing, including bug bounty.
  • Knowledge of security engineering, computer and network security, authentication and security protocols and applied cryptography.
  • Ability to practice using, tuning, and triaging results of security solutions such as static analysis tools.

About the job

Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. Security Engineers work with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. In this role, you will also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.

In this role, you will be a trusted partner with one of our products to help secure their existing products, and help new products be developed with security in mind. You will work directly with the software engineers, hardware engineers, product managers, and UX researchers to identify and resolve security issues. This will involve static and dynamic code analysis, application penetration testing, and design review. Your security reviews will uncover bugs, and we encourage exploit development to demonstrate the impact of a vulnerability. We also go a step further and develop individual or systemic fixes to common vulnerability patterns. You will also partner with other security teams full of privacy engineers, software engineers, and researchers to ensure our products are getting the best security the industry has to offer.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Identify security issues and implement and design security controls, tools, and services to improve security systems and processes.
  • Analyze applications and services to discover vulnerabilities and create proof of concept exploits.
  • Partner with engineering teams to define the right security expectations for their products and users.
  • Assess published or externally reported vulnerabilities to determine their impact on our products, and recommend fixes for our systems.
  • Prototype and build security tools to identify security vulnerabilities or automate our workflows.
