Join Qube Research & Technologies as a Security Engineer to operate and maintain a broad range of network and security technologies, while contributing to design and implementation of security controls across hybrid, multi-cloud and on-prem environments. You will participate in a global 24/7 follow-the-sun security operations rota, perform hands-on troubleshooting and incident response, and help automate and scale security solutions. The role involves close collaboration with IT, Cloud and Engineering teams, ongoing threat analysis, vulnerability mitigation and mentoring of team members.

Successful candidate will be responsible for hands-on BAU changes across security products (24/7 follow the sun), conducting in-depth troubleshooting of complex issues, and collaborating on the design and implementation of new security controls and technologies to enhance the organisation's cyber resilience.
This is an opportunity for individuals with a passion for security who are eager to develop their expertise across both network security and security operations. Candidates with less experience will be considered for a junior role.
The Role
- Operate and maintain network security infrastructure, including firewalls, SASE, CASB, proxies, NAC and cloud security controls.
- Actively conduct day-to-day security operations by responding to security-related inquiries, addressing vulnerabilities, administering identity controls, and continuously monitoring systems to maintain uptime and ensure the availability of core security solutions.
- Be part of a global, 24/7 ‘follow-the-sun’ Security Operations capability, requiring participation in weekend coverage on a rotational basis as part of the operational schedule. Implement automated and scalable security solutions, processes, and controls across hybrid, multi-cloud, and on-prem environments.
- Work closely with IT, Cloud Services, and Engineering teams to ensure security is integrated into operations and infrastructure.
- Collaborate on the design, implementation, and enforcement of security policies and best practices.
- Support network security architecture, including segmentation, encryption, and secure remote access solutions.
- Identify and mitigate security risks by analysing security logs, alerts, and vulnerabilities.
- Position security as a business enabler, aligning controls with operational effectiveness and supporting innovation without compromising protection.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the evolving threat landscape, applying advanced security capabilities and controls to anticipate and mitigate emerging risks.

To be considered a good technical fit, you should have:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience network engineering and/or security. Candidates with less experience will be considered for a junior Security Engineer role.
- Strong multi-vendor firewall background with exposure to modern network solutions like SASE, CASB, Proxies, L7 rule adoption.
- Good understanding of systems, networking and security engineering concepts.
- Good understanding of major network protocols in various layers
- Experience protecting and safeguarding data and assets on the network level.
- Strong technical foundations in operating systems, cloud, and network engineering
- Experience with packet decoding and analysis tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark.
- Understanding of offensive security from the perspective of an adversary
- Hands-on experience of security operations processes and systems including; security monitoring, intrusion prevention & detection, network security, endpoint management & protection, identity management, threat detection, vulnerability management
- Expert on identifying threats in distributed environments and responding to them
- Programming skills in any high-level language
- Must have a focus on ownership of issues and commitment to resolving them
