Senior IT Risk Manager responsible for Line 1 IT risk and compliance across Technology and Chief Product Owner teams for Australia & New Zealand. The role embeds operational risk and compliance into day-to-day delivery, manages audits and incidents, provides risk input for initiatives, and leads a small team while reporting to the Head of Technology Office in Sydney.

About the role:
As Senior IT Risk Manager, you will be a Line 1 Risk & Compliance Subject Matter Expert (SME) across the bank's Technology & Chief Product Owner (CPO) teams for Australia & New Zealand. Reporting to the Head of Technology Office, you will make an impact by uplifting & embedding risk into day-to-day delivery, agile practices & change initiatives - while managing audits, incidents & regulatory obligations.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll partner with senior stakeholders (both globally & locally), influence risk culture across the business and make an impact. You will join a highly engaged team based in Sydney.
Top Role Accountabilities:
- Act as Risk SME for Technology & CPO and foster strong risk culture.
- Manage & maintain risk profiles, controls, KRIs, high-quality registers aligned to policy & standards.
- Integrate Operational Risk & Compliance frameworks into daily operations.
- Lead, develop & mentor a small team
- Manage audits, operational risk incidents, & oversee remediation plans & evidence for closure documentation of incidents & findings.
- Deliver insightful risk reporting for senior leadership ensuring consistent messaging & escalation to risk forums & regulators.
- Provide risk input on new initiatives & lead deep dives on emerging risks.
- Perform risk assessments for Technology & CPO departments
- Conduct materiality assessments to align with local/global governance requirements e.g., CPS230.
- Manage stakeholder obligations for committees & global reporting.
To be successful you will have:
- Extensive experience in IT Governance & IT Risk Management, including Line 1 within banking or financial services.
- Proven ability to identify, assess & manage technology risk effectively.
- Deep understanding of Operational Risk Management principles & regulatory standards.
- Experience assessing residual technology risks, including Real-Time Objective (RTO) & Disaster Recovery (DR) sites.
- Broad knowledge of IT infrastructure, software development practices & lifecycle management.
- Strong grasp of risk & compliance frameworks within financial services, including Basel II, Privacy, AML/CTF, & APRA Prudential Standards.
- Exceptional communication skills - both written & verbal.
- Demonstrated success in stakeholder management & building strong, collaborative relationships.
- Excellent leadership capabilities
- Solid understanding of regulatory & compliance requirements across Australia & New Zealand.
