Business Process Management is rapidly evolving within ABN AMRO. To support this growth, the BPM Process Digitalization (BPM-PD) team is creating a bank-wide BPM maturity assessment tool. As the team behind BPM standards, frameworks, and training, BPM-PD plays a key role in strengthening our process excellence culture and improving the value we deliver to customers.
As an intern, you will help design and build this maturity model, gaining hands-on experience with ABN AMRO’s way of working. You will analyse current processes and frameworks and contribute to a standardized assessment tool that supports continuous improvement across the organisation.

Your job
As a BPM Maturity Assessment Thesis Intern, your responsibilities include:
- Researching existing Business Process Management (BPM) maturity frameworks and academic literature
- Identifying relevant dimensions, qualifications, and indicators to include in the maturity model
- Analysing maturity levels currently used within ABN AMRO policies and aligning them with the tool’s structure
- Exploring and defining scoring methodologies for maturity assessment results
- Developing growth trajectories for each maturity level, including recommended actions to progress to the next stage
- Collaborating with departments across the bank to gather insights, input, and practitioner feedback
- Testing, validating, and iterating on the maturity model
- Presenting findings and delivering clear recommendations for implementation
Your working environment
You will be part of the BPM Process Digitalization (BPM-PD) team. This team shapes the organisational standards, methods, and capabilities related to Business Process Management. We support BPM implementations, process transformation, and the development of generic services and modular components that scale across the bank.
You will work in an agile environment alongside BPM consultants, process experts, product owners, and data-driven colleagues. Your daily work may involve research methods, BPM frameworks, process modelling tools, data analysis approaches, and ABN AMRO’s internal process standards.

Your profile
You are a good match if you meet the following criteria:
- Strong interest in Business Process Management, process optimisation, or organisational maturity
- An analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
- A cooperative, adaptive, and proactive working style
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with different stakeholders
- Ability to work independently when needed
- Prior exposure to process management or a financial services environment (Preferred, not required)
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- You are currently pursuing a relevant MSc degree, such as Business Administration, Informatics, Business Information Management, or a related field
- You must remain enrolled at a Dutch university for the full duration of the internship
- You are available 4 days per week for 6 months
- You are enrolled in a Dutch educational institution
- This internship supports the development of your master’s thesis
