Your job
As a Chapter Lead, part of your time (40%) will be focused on mentoring and supporting team members, fostering their professional growth and creating a culture of innovation and development. In the remainder of your time (60%), you will work as a data engineer and would be responsible for developing and reviewing solutions that are deployed in the Azure Cloud using a variety of technologies such as: ADLS, ADF, Databricks, Azure Functions, Airflow etc.
As a chapter lead you will:
- Ensure the sharing of expertise, technical excellence, and best practices within the chapter
- Conduct regular 1-on-1 meetings, provide constructive feedback, and assess team members' performance to help them succeed
- Work with Product Owners, IT lead, and other stakeholders to align chapter goals with organizational objectives
As a data engineer you will:
- Design, develop, and implement ETL pipelines that process data from multiple sources, apply transformations, and transfer data to target systems.
- Create and review Azure Cloud solutions using technologies such as ADLS, ADF, Databricks, Azure Functions, and Airflow.
- Collaborate within an Agile/Scrum DevOps team to develop, manage, and maintain functionalities for Transaction Banking, based on priorities set by the Product Owner.
- Foster the professional growth of team members by encouraging skill enhancement and knowledge sharing
- Guide and connect team members, encouraging open communication and shared learning
- Inspire innovation, promote best practices, and drive continuous improvement across team
- Standardize processes, frameworks, and tools to improve efficiency and consistency across teams
- Collaborate with Product Owner to ensure alignment between technical solutions and business priorities
Working environment
We are a Domain Data Store development team (Microsoft Azure data platform) that support the Analytics Centres of Expertise (CoEs) and create business value from data, by enabling data analytics, data science and reporting within the Data Domains of Accounts, Savings & Transactions, and Insurances (AST&I). The AST&I Data Domains are within the Transaction Banking product unit, which covers a vast portfolio of products: accounts, payment cards, packages, savings, insurances, open banking APIs, trade finance, digital products like Apple Pay/ Google Pay etc. and associated Sales, business & risk management processes. We contribute significantly to the revenue of the bank by strengthening data driven decision making, also cater to different regulatory and operational topics, and we want to continue and improve on this path to Product Excellence. Our stakeholders apply business intelligence & (advanced) analytics to explore, research and gather valuable insights; and we provide the data foundation and platform to perform these activities. The Domain Data Store team consists of 15+ members (Product Owner, Data Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers & Data Modelers) and are based across the Netherlands and India. Your profile
Soft skills:
- Proven leadership experience in mentoring and developing teams
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
- Strong and clear communication skills in English (and preferably Dutch).
- Effective stakeholder management, planning, and organizational skills to structure and guide projects toward successful completion.
- Working experience with Scrum/Agile principles.
- Inclination for mentoring junior team members on hard and soft skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, fostering a positive and inclusive culture.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring data integrity and the quality of deliverables.
Technical Skills
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering with a focus on Databricks, Apache Airflow andAzure cloud technologies such as Azure Functions.
- Proficient in Python (preferably OOP), PySpark and strong SQL skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Apache Spark, including performance tuning and optimization.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks platform tools.
- Strong experience with ETL/ELT tools and processes.
- Good data modelling skills, including dimensional modelling and best practices for analytical and operational systems.
- Experience with Git and building CI/CD pipelines, preferably in Azure DevOps/Azure Pipelines.
- Experience with Apache Airflow.
Bonus points
- Experience with monitoring, logging and data lineage.
- Familiarity with open storage formats like delta and/or Iceberg
- Familiarity with data governance and best practices in data management
- Experience with deploying and creating Azure infrastructure
- Databricks & Azure certifications
We are offering
- A competitive salary based on a 36 hours working week. Working 40 hours is also an option.
