As a Data Engineer on the Alexa Business Telemetry & Decision Science (B-Tel) team, you will architect AI-powered data infrastructure to support both traditional analytics and GenAI applications. You will design and optimize high-performance data pipelines for massive datasets, implement GenAI-assisted data quality monitoring and automated anomaly detection, and architect ingestion solutions using AWS technologies. You will collaborate with BI Engineers and Data Scientists across time zones to enable breakthrough analytics and machine learning capabilities, while driving automation to scale data operations globally. The role is based in Poland (Gdańsk or Kraków) with a minimum base pay of PLN 14,200 per month.

The Alexa Business Telemetry & Decision Science team (B-Tel for short) builds telemetry to report and analyze how customers engage with Alexa and how engagement translates to value for the business. Our products include metrics definition and instrumentation, data products consumed by Alexa BI and analytics teams, and models that predict trends and identify drivers of business outcomes. As a Data Engineer, you will architect AI-powered data infrastructure that fuels both traditional analytics and next-generation GenAI applications, enabling our team to deliver insights at the intersection of voice AI and generative intelligence.

This role could be considered in either Gdańsk or Kraków.

The minimum base pay salary for this position is listed below. Amazon reserves the right to offer a higher base salary, depending on the candidate's skills, competencies, and experience. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include further pay components such as a sign on payment and the eligibility to participate in a restricted stock unit scheme operated independently by Amazon.com Inc. in USA. Your recruiting team will share final base pay and any applicable total compensation elements depending on skills and requirements.Company discretionary, supplementary benefits apply subject to further terms, including pension plans, health insurance, life and disability insurance, business travel insurance, MultiSport card, employee discount code and program (EDC/Extras), commuter benefits where applicable, and the Employee Assistance Program (private and confidential counselling and referral service to support health and well-being). The minimum base pay for this position is PLN 14,200 monthly.

Key job responsibilities
As a Data Engineer on the B-Tel team, you will:
• Design and optimize high-performance data pipelines processing massive datasets that drive Alexa's strategic business insights
• Implement GenAI-assisted data quality monitoring and automated anomaly detection systems
• Architect innovative data ingestion solutions for high-impact business projects using advanced AWS technologies
• Partner with BI Engineers and Data Scientists, also across time zones, to enable breakthrough analytics and machine learning capabilities
• Drive automation initiatives that eliminate manual processes and scale data operations globally

A day in the life
In a typical day, you might architect new data pipelines for breakthrough Alexa analytics, like customer engagement tracking or subscription conversion modeling. You could implement data validation systems, design infrastructure to support Alexa's conversational AI improvements, or build automated pipeline generation tools to accelerate development cycles. You'll collaborate with stakeholders to understand technical requirements, explore AWS services for optimal performance, prototype scalable solutions for peer review, and implement robust ETL infrastructure that powers insights across Alexa's global operations. You'll work independently to design innovative solutions, assess business impact, and deliver technical excellence through comprehensive documentation.

Alexa Business Telemetry & Decision Science (B-Tel) is a cross-functional team of engineers, scientists, and product/program managers who deliver telemetry, models, and insights that help Alexa's business leaders make great decisions. Our team is at the forefront of integrating generative AI into business intelligence, building the data foundation that powers both Alexa's voice interactions and the next generation of AI-driven customer insights. We are a central service within Alexa, building products used by other Alexa teams to improve how they serve end customers. You'll be embedded within our existing Poland software team while providing critical operational support to partner BI Teams. B-Tel is a collaborative team; while everyone has their primary focus, we all pitch in to help each other deliver as needed and grow as builders.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
- Experience with SQL and building multi-level queries
- Experience programming with at least one modern language, such as Java, Python, C#, C++, Ruby

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of AWS services like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, IAM
- Experience with non-relational databases / data stores
- Knowledge of data governance, privacy, compliance, and security best practices
